I guess I should ask this too. For this type of system, whats the minimum wattage PSU I should look at.
Baring in mind that I might do SLI in the future.
An idea I had was that 430 watt would be good - I saw the Antec P150 which has an Antec Neo HE 430W modular PSU in the latest computer shopper that got a 5 star review and was the best budget buy. WHich is why I ask

    Thanks again guys

i am a hiper type r owner had it for six months now hasnt done anything out of the ordinary just install and forget but look a tthe sexy blue lights and the braided cable makes it look neat, a must for 60 quid, also noni has a point about the cpu and the motherboard,
what i think should be considered is that the 165 has been known of late to be clockign high i have seen a 3 ghz one on a forum maybe kempezes one..

but if your gunna do a bit of overclockign then tbh the dfi is the way, my asus a8n-sli is ok, but u cnt ajusdt the vcore on my bios and its ony stable up to 300 htt which is ok but for the extra the dfi are superior in terms of overclockin although they dnt like corsair ram i dnt think..

I am consistently impressed with Antec cases, and the Sonata II comes with a good enough 450W (antec brand) PSU built in. They are nice and quiet, fairly solid, and £70 ish total which should suit your budget. The only problem is that Scan (my new favorite e-tailers) dont stock them, but keep saying they will at some point...

Other than that I can only emphasise what everyone has said which is go for the Corsair Value Select range. The other XMS etc etc stuff will get you the odd extra % or two, but is so totally not good value for money in comparison.
Scan sell 2 x 1GB here for £110, which when you consider the Pro LED (2 x 512MB) is £131 makes it seem silly. In my experience the CAS3 Value stuff will run at CAS 2.5 with a mild overclock (eg up to 210Mhz or similar), or at CAS3 with a good overclock (eg 240Mhz).

Oh *$£! I forgot about that... What do I need to do, call up the "support" centre or whatever it is and tell them I am buying completely new rig?

A mate of mine has told me about this, but I am still not completely sure, if someone could link me in the correct direction, that would be cool

    THanks

If you currently have an OEM version of windows (basically a copy that cost under £100 and didnt come in its own box) then you are essentially tied to that motherboard.
I've never read a solid, clear, official wording of that but that is the general gist of it.
The boxed windows usually costs about £160 for XP home and £250 for XP Pro, which in my eyes is a stupid price compared to the OEM.... i can certainly see why there are pirated versions.

Give Linux a try to start with. I found Ubuntu to be (mostly) user friendly and was able to get online browsing with 2 minutes. The real bonus is that you dont need to install it - it just boots off the CD!! (Very handy too to use on a work laptop and leave no trace that you were there ...)

I think microsoft classifies a new motherboard basically as a new system so for the retail version that you are sharing with your friend, you will have to call them up and beg for the cd key to be moved over onto your new system.. i think. Presumably you have 1 liscence and your friend has the other, so you have used up both available on that retail version.

You could always just buy a new oem licence if you are not one of those constant upgraders. They won't shift over an oem licence to a new system.
