    really slow boot times (still need help)

    i just booted my latitude c610 this morning and it is taking 5 mins to get past the post screen and onto the grub bootloderand even then the screen can take as long as 5 mins to get anywhere and i cant scroll down to get select ubuntu linux where all my collage work is installed. even when i select windows xp i cannot load it as it takes about 30 mins to load!!

    any ideas ?

    bios is latest dell version (a16)

    If both your OS's are doing that, I would think your HD is on the way out...

    Use one of the linux live CD's and back up your data asap, then start looking into the problem properly.

    the hard drive is only 5 months old
    its a wd scorpio and it has done this before and has corrected its self
    its doing it now but but it has not corrected itself

    just tested without the hard drive and it is still taking an age to get past the post screen
