    depends on the implementation.

    Some batteries are used even when plugged in. Some are ONLY used when plugged in.

    Exposure to oxygen causes them to flattern in a lot of cases.

    Low battery can caus instability on older mobo's.

    Testing a battery with a voltmeter might not put enough load on it, so from V=IR the R is far too high, so with the low current level, the V is high enough still.

    Just like my signature says - I have learned something new today. If i ever start experiencing system instability, checking the battery level will now be one of the many things i'll check
