you can partition off the first 36gb of most new 7200rpm drives and it will be faster than a raptor 3600 apparently

Now I'm getting my temps from SpeedFan with a config file written by somebody or other specifically for the Shuttle I'm using so it's all setup right.
At idle, even though the temps right now are rediculous, the raptor is idling at 44C and the Seagate's at 49C and 50C. When they are under load such as large file transfers that take hours and horus, I have never seen the raptor beyond sort of 54ish, and the seagates have each been up in the low 60s today. For what its worth, my previous 2 400GB Hitachis ran at 32-33C idle and 42-43C load.
Not sure if smaller seagate's are cooler, that's for someone else to comment on

Not formatted it or anything yet as I had to go out so they're stuck in my PC now ready for installation, which I'm gonna do now, wish me luck.
I've also just got 2 seagates as data drives but I'm keeping those un RAIDed.
