Consider looking at the Antec Neo-HE range, ive got the 550W model and even with an 80mm fan, it literally is near silent...I wont say silent because it isnt, but you cannot hear it from general noise.

This is just my 2 cent, and it vary alot depends on ur component but it could be like this: (from noisiest to most silent)

CPU -> GFX -> PSU -> Chipset / Case fans (not exactly loud, just whining)

    OR

PSU -> GFX -> CPU -> Chipset / Case fans

Make a PC near silent is easy, just use passive heatsink and since you dont have fancy gfx there is much less heat in ur machine. I think a Ninja could cool ur CPU passively well enuf . 1 or 2 120mm fans on 7v would create enuf airflow not to roast ur sound card or HDD and could replace the chipset fan with a Zalman blue thingy. And a passive CPU or a Seasonic (any silent one really) to complete the mix.

Bin that PSU now and consider yorself a lucky boy! PSU is the most important part in your system. If it dies then there is a good chance it will take EVERYTHING with it (as happened to my brother) including your precious data.

People also fail to realise that the PSU sits somewhere nice and dry and cosy called a house/flat/dwelling. It may not just be your pc and data that go up in smoke due to a poor psu.

Also invest in a surge protector - they are cheap.

damnit! Would have snapped that one up...

Thanks for all the latest info guys. I've realise that it is important that i get a silent cpu cooler first, as thats where the noise is!!

looking at the arctic cooler 64, but its out of stock at the moment.. meh!

my psu blew last year in a thunder storm, took the mobo, and processor with it, the hd failed soon after, so definately get a new psu if this one is sparking, loosing your gear and tunes is not nice !
