    Timeline of computer purchases

    OK, so the PC is 25 years old. This led me to thinking about all the PCs I've owned. Here's my timeline of major PC purchases (I've not bothered with all the numerous upgrades). Also I've only mentioned my main computer otherwise the list would go on and on...


    Olivetti 8086 10Mhz, 640Kb RAM, 20Mb HDD , 3.5" FDD, 14" VGA Monitor

    Evesham 486SX 25Mhz, 4Mb RAM, 100Mb HDD, 14" SVGA
    Upgraded to 486DX2-66 & 8Mb RAM !!!

    Scan Pentium 100, 100Mhz, 8Mb EDO RAM, 850Mb HDD, 15" SVGA

    Evesham Pentium II-450, 450Mhz, 128Mb SDRAM, 10Gb HDD, 8Mb AGP, 19" CRT

    Custom Build - Duron 800, OC to 1,000Mhz, 128Mb RAM, 2 x 30Gb RAID 0 HDD, 128Mb ATI 8500, 19" CRT

    Custom Build - AlthonXP-1500, 256Mb, 2 x 30Gb RAID 0 HDD, 128Mb ATI 8500, 19" CRT

    Custom Build - AthlonXP 2100, 512Mb, 40Gb, 128Mb ATI 9500, 1 x 19" TFT & 1 x 19" CRT

    Custom Build - Pentium 4 3.0Ghz Northwood @3.4Ghz, 1.5Gb DDR, 150Gb Raptor, 128Mb nVidia 6600GT, 2 x 19" TFT

    Added an Adaptec 2940W SCSI controller, Plextor Ultraplex 40x, Plextor 8x2x20 and Pioneer DVD-ROM a bit later

    • Custom Build Shuttle SFF Athlon 1800, 512MB, 80GB, HP Omnibook 500 Laptop, upgraded to 512MB

    • Custom Build Athlon Mobile 2200+, 512MB, 60GB, Nvidia 5200, 19" Viewsonic TFT (sold to parents)

    • HP Pavilion DV1100, upgraded to 2GB and replaced the 5400rpm dirve with a 7200rpm Travelstar 60GB

    i could dig out more info on each setup, and obviously there were upgrades and quite a lot of external hardware miched in there too
