nVidia G80

hello,

Does anybody know any details about this GPU, and, when it is to be released?

I am currently about to purchase a system, and am not sure whether I should wait until the 8*** series of nVidia GPU's arrive.

If you're dead certain you want early versions of G80, then get a cheaper one now to tide you over..

Apparently it wont be coming out until at least the end of the September, more likely the end of the year.

It will still be 90nm and from what inq says:

We wrote before that the new G80 will feature 32 pipelines and 16 vertex + geometry Shader

It is guessed that it will have GDDR4, but not known for certain.

I want to hoold out before getting my DX10 card, I want to make sure that it has HDMI (at least 1.3) since image quality should be improved by that alone

Compatible? Of course it is.

As for G80, who knows, id imagine we will see some reviews/info by October. I myself am waiting for R600, and hoping it's good enough to game at 1600x1200.

No, it isn't. Will it run the majority of DirectX games? Yes. However, don't expect DirectX 10 features to be usable, in the same way you couldn't run DirectX 9 technologies on DirectX 8 cards.

Compatible means that it will work with the software. For example, you can play Quake 4 on a Geforce 4 – but it won’t use all the features.

Compliant means it will support all the features of that Direct X revision, thus any games that use its features will be fully accelerated.

I did briefly consider that Agent, but thought that AD-15 might have got compliant/compatible muddled. Thanks for clearing up though .

I'm not trying to be toooo picky here...more for my own benefit really...but is it this way round, or that DX10 itself is backward compatible, as opposed to the graphics card being forwards compatible, and will allow the graphics card to run in a DX9 compliant mode?

All HDMI 1.3 means is: Digital Video with HDCP support and Multichannel PCM sound

Image quality will be IDENTICAL to a DVI connection (the video portion of HDMI is the same signal as DVI).

Heh naughty me, i kept it short and sweet, just so people would get confused.

I dunno why there is so muh fuss over DX10. Vista is a long way off, and only Crysis and Ut2007 slighty will use it at first. The only thing that will be good, is if they are really quick in DX9 current games.
