    Mouse Problem

That's right, a mouse problem, no fancy graphics or CPU or anything.

What I want to know is if anyone who has or has used an intelimouse explorer 4, does the wheel on it have detents? I have just bought one and it has no detents and is completely smooth at scrolling (I hate it) not to mention I have to really press hard on the wheel to click it.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

I'm afraid the "smooth scrolling" is a 'feature' of that mouse. I tried one out at a mate's house and it felt like I was scrolling aimlessly through custard!

I'd return it and buy a more responsive/sensitive mouse, something like a Logitech Mx-518 (my mouse, I love it) or one of the razors.

Apparently Microsoft are re-releasing the intellimouse 3 as people prefered this and now it's had a nice makeover (colourwise) and should be available soon

If I move the mouse and scroll the wheel at the same time, the scrolling action dosn't work. Surely that's not a 'feature'?

That sounds like it's broken and a good reason to return it for a refund.
