Where Did all the AMD X2 AM2 Chips go?

LOL you 2 are muppets. You really think your ever going to get a 5000ghz chip? We have already hit a wall today at 4Ghz under normal conditions, Intel are going to the AMD route, more efficient, etc.

My first computer had a 1.8MHz Z80 in it, ~1980.

Heard people say the same about 10MHz, 100MHz, 1GHz, 5GHz...

Clock speed got out of hand and things are being re-balanced towards the "brainiac" approach of more work per clock. That doesn't mean that more GHz is bad, and it *will* start creeping back up again.

One thing you can be certain of, when they do come out there will be threads like this with our children moaning "I had my 5THz CPU on order for weeks and still no sign"

BTW, Scan are now showing 5000+ and 5200+ OEM in stock (at the risk of going on topic).

I thought the original question is why there is such a shortage for 5000+ cpu?

And if there is anywhere that have them in stock for a reasonable amount?

The discussion got out of hand a wee bit when I commented that it wasnt a 5000GHz processor but just a 5000+ rating..

Again, splitting cores can only do so much, clockspeed will begin its reincarnation when viral resonance chips becomes commercialised in the next decade or two.

The 5000+ chip has been available for preorder from most of the online retaliers for about 6months, it hasn't come into stock with any of them which is why some have removed it from their listings. The 5000+ by the looks of things is a figment of AMD's imagination, I had to settle for the 4600+ due to time constraints for my build.
