    PCI controller card query

    Hi

Recently bought a Newlink 2 port ATA133 PCI Raid card (£20)

Going to build a Core2Duo system but want to keep my 2 IDE hard drives and 2 DVD writers.

But the 965 boards only support 2 IDE devices thus the reason for buying the PCI controller.

Now here's the question. The bloke in the shop told me that only hard drives work on the PCI card. Optical drives dont.

Never heard this before. Is it true?

I'd assumed i would attach the hard drives to the motherboard and the optical drives to the PCI card.

If i have to do it the other way will this have any effect on the performance?

    Thanks

Cant say ive heard that one before either. Will just have to try it and see. IDE should be IDE - aslong as it follows that standard, cant really see the issue ?
I get no issues on my SATA RAID card though with Optical drives using Abits Serial-O (IDE->SATA)

The card supports PIO as well as UDMA, so won't have any problem with optical drives.

I'm presuming the guy in the shop meant RAID wont work with optical drives (which of course it won't). If you are just running without RAID I cant see you having any problems.

    Thanks for the replies.

I wont be using RAID so that's one less thing to worry about.
