Yeah i thought this thread would help me - but anyways i was wondering your thoughts of a alternative to.....

430w Seasonic S12-430 aPFC PSU Silent ATX2.0 *New Version RoHS
(which seems to be out of stock everywhere)

    my quick spec:
    I have a E6600 Core Duo
    2 GB RAM
1 x mid range graphic card

I dont want to spend to much on a PSU as i heard i dont need anything above 500w for my setup above.

    Any ideas?

We were interested and I think the list could have been made in to a sticky once refined.

I think you misunderstood what people were trying to say?

    glad you're back..

    now, about those Tagan PSU..

I've had at least 3 Tagan PSU and they've been solid so far.. perhaps those tests were a little too much sweeping statements?

After being nuffed for not having a multimeter, I've bought one of those just for the sole purpose before to prove that my X1800XT wasn't drawing 30A from the line..

And I really didnt see that bad of fluctuation for the 12V line really.. It may not be solid stable but they're still well within the safety standards.. Efficiencies for the 580W model from what I've read are solid as well, hitting just under 80%.. on par with most high end models..

I suppose all PSU manufacturer have good/bad batches and my guess is that you've just got yourself with a faulty one, or one from a bad batch. Same for clunk as well..

Sometimes it can be misleading how ppl can like/not-like a product. Some based their preference over experience, but some are just plain hypocritical. I'm not saying that your sources are the latter, but having used 3 Tagan PSU, of varying models, they're all cracking PSUs...

I'm sure many here will vouch for it... I for one will be first in line..

Tbh, come to think about it, there are always some piss about some psu somewhere.. I think sometimes judgements have to come solid over experience, rather than some character who just wants a voice of hypocriticism.

    .
I agree, although the biggest problem that i had was with the actual design of the unit and its cheap and nasty SATA adapters. It wasnt a one off, Nanopoint sent me a new bag of them and 3 out of 4 caused a short circuit after plugging/unplugging them a few times. I actually took one apart to see what could be causing the problem and the insulation between the copper strips was thin, flipsy and poorly secured, and thats why they were shorting.

The issue with the fans sticking on full and being noisy, i accept that it can happen with any PSU....it happened a couple of weeks before on a cheap and nasty FSP 700w one

I have never owned a Tagan tbh...just tested a couple.
Some of them (the Topower OEM's) were pretty decent but the rest were shameful.

    Which model do you have?

The first PSU that ever died on me was a 530W 2Force SLI Tagan, pop, PC turned off, wouldnt turn on.

    And I'm using....

The replacement PSU, which is exactly the same. My first PSU lasted 5 months, this ones still going strong. As said, every company has bad and good batches, but one thing that will always make me buy another Tagan is Nanopoint's CS. Off flew my first e-mail, they asked me to package up the PSU and send it to them, 2-3 days after my first email, I had a brand new PSU waiting to be fitted.

I couldn't fault their customer service at all, friendly, & prompt. (Well, I could, I was hoping for a 530W Easycon as a replacement, but I suppose that's just me being cheeky )

Blitzen please put your List backup, it's a great idea.
Take some of the comments perhaps critisism and use it to refine the list.
I think its a great idea and a good way to base your PSU on.
    Please put list backup!
