    [QUOTE=sawyen;921129]glad you're back..

    now, about those Tagan PSU..

I've had at least 3 Tagan PSU and they've been solid so far.. perhaps those tests were a little too much sweeping statements?

And I really didnt see that bad of fluctuation for the 12V line really.. It may not be solid stable but they're still well within the safety standards.. Efficiencies for the 580W model from what I've read are solid as well, hitting just under 80%.. on par with most high end models..[quote=sawyen;921129]

see now the thing i dont get is he made a list missed out tagan everyone is throwing a wobbly and you jump in with the statement that 80% efficiency is good

interesting fact for you a tv or video or even dvd player has to have an efficiency of 98% yet a psu is acceptable or as you are saying good at 80 i have seen some that have 70% efficiency at load that is poor at best

i have also seen ones that have 90%+ efficiency i know which id buy

i am certainly not saying tagan are bad but its certainly not the worlds biggest tragedy that they are not on the list

Like i said....the list will be back up later.

    and

Thanks for the reply about the Tagan.
The reason they didnt make the list is because for the price vs stability vs performance vs efficiency there is no where on the list to fairly place it!

Its not a budget PSU because (even though it should be) its way over priced.
Its not a mid-range PSU. even though the price suggests it should be as its not as stable as the other i suggested.
The high-end Tagans could possibly slot into the 'High-End' category as i have heard decentish things about them .......
    but
for the best part of 200 quid i certainly wouldn't buy the Tagan over a 850W Silverstone or an 850W Enermax Galaxy.

In each of the categories there is over-whelming evidence for other better value PSUs.
Its exactly the same with Hiper 580 units. (But thats another story and maybe we can hit that one soon).

Can you see my point now? Tagan have made a series of PSUs without a viable market to aim at when the price/performance/efficiency is considered.

Certainly there will be PSU with >90% efficiency. But does that justify their cost for but the most avid PC enthusiast? Most probably not. PC&C PSU's isn't the cheapest PSU around. You pay a premium for the efficiency it gives. This also applies in a majority of Tagan mid range builds. They give reasonable efficiency 80ish over a reasonable price. Certainly, there are also other things to consider as well, such as build quality, warranty and goodies, but again those are about primaryish or secondary. The core of all the Tagan I've used have never let me down. They provide stable power, stable current, and tips every chip I can get previously and my graphics card. I don't see a reason why it cannot be recommended as Blitzen made it to be. i.e. wouldn't go near. Blitzen has made it sound like its a Q-Tec...

Again, I stress, I agree there are much more better brands around. But Tagan is amongst those that are between good/very good. At least in my opinion they are.

I just don't feel it has made justice to a solid brand of PSU. Thats all.. But then again, who needs my opinion anyways. Stay away from them then..

There isnt anything 'wrong' with the Hipers as long as you dont load too much onto them.
For single carded systems they will be fine.
I know some will disagree but for an SLI/XFire setup they just haven't got enough meat on their bones. In Dual card systems the 12V rail just isnt up to it (even though Hiper say it is).

If anyone about the dual card with a Hiper then post me your results using a DMM and we can compare.

The unfortunate thing is, (and i know most here do actually know alot about electronics but in general people don't), users seem to think its ok to use U-Guru, MBM or some other software to see how their rails are standing up.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE SOFTWARE PROGRAM THAT GIVES CORRECT READINGS. There just isn't a program good enough that can.

This: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums...ic.php?t=16738 may also be of some interest. Its not my opinion....its just something i sumbled across a while back.

    On a lst note:
Maybe asking for the OCZ Gamestreams and the Mushkins to be added for sale would be nice as they are both very good aswell and would be recommended.

In one of the psu reviews MikeC did on silentpcreview, he stated the Top Power manufactured psu being reviewed ran hot.

I think he may have been referring to all the Top Power psus he's reviewed - can't remember 100% though.

    They are just basically inaccurate.
They will read the fluctuation fine but the true reading is always off.

Let me give you an example.
I tested an Antec TPII PSU and MBM5 gave the 12V rail, under load as 11.42V <<--Very low.
    So
    I read with the DMM.......11.92V

Thats a huge difference in reality.
