Hmm... I'll probably go for a normal PCI one then as it would be good for 2 drives

PCI bus is shared between whatever else you have plugged into the PCI slots (sound card etc.) so you could potentially see slow downs in the drive if other things are using the speed.

Good for what? Assuming it works as advertised it should be OK, but did you have a specific use in mind?

Good for connecting sata (or sata2) drives when there aren't any free sata ports. Well the only reason to doubt it being good is that its a cheap unbranded brand

Yeah, I could go for a PCI one, but I was told PCI has a certain bandwidth limit for all PCI slots... so as I have my ethernet plugged in there as well then surely the HDD would be slower?

Also, can you actually boot from PCI SATA cards?

PCI has a bandwidth of 132MB/sec for all slots. 10/100 ethernet cannot use more than 8MB/sec realistically. The fastest HDD's can do about 80 MB/sec.

PCI will not be a bottleneck in this situation..
in theory it could be, but in practice, its rubbish.

I'll probably go for a bootable PCI SATA card if my 1st SATA port ever fails like my second did.

Well I have risked it anyway... I just wanted to know if anyone had an experience with these and found out that its crap (eg crap transfer rates, non functioning raid etc.)

I think it's ok, it should perform just as good as on board Sil chipset SATA controller.
