I am planning on using the Thread titled 'Building A Gaming Rig' as a guide, and it seems adequite. But, I am not sure wether or not some of the selections are good by todays standards of gaming. I am planning on upgrading to the following (by ??? I mean not sure):

    ATI Radeon X1650 (Graphics Card)
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Processor)
    ??? (PSU)

Is the following compatible with the rest described in the guide, and is this good?
That looks like a good setup. You may want to consider another X1650 for a CrossFire config. That should give you a little more gaming performance.
    AMD FX-8350 @ 4.70GHz w/8-Cores - Bus 277 / 1.4v - Asus Crosshair V Formula ROG - G.SKILL Ripjaws X 16GB DDR3-2210 (8GBx2) - SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC (UEFI)

Core2duo is a no-brainer. Get whatever size fits your pocket.

2Gb RAM is also a no-brainer. Better to get 2Gb of "value" RAM than 1Gb of "performance".

Graphics Card - unless you have to have DX10 now, Radeon X19xx series are best. I would get a 512Mb card as some games appreciate the difference. Otherwise again pick price to suit pocket.

PSU - lots of good PSUs out there these days. I'm very happy with the HiperPower which is modular, just as quiet, rock steady, and cheaper than the Seasonic I had previously.

Case - Antec Nine Hundred looks pretty good for an aircooled overclock. On Today Only at Scan at the moment.

Motherboard is very much dependent on what feature set you want, whether you want to run at stock, easy OC or hardcore OC and particularly if you want to run Xfire, SLI or neither in the future.

Thank you so much for the help!

Since a lot of you are asking for my budget, it is about £600-1,000. No greater.

Could someone recommend a full list of components for a PC at this budget, or, even better, one I could buy for gaming?

For my next PC, I have a £1000 budget also. Here's a preliminary view of what I'll probably be buying an a months time (remember, some prices will go down):

This is brilliant! What website are you using to order?

Edit: What have you not ordered yet? I mean, what is not included in the order above i.e DVD-ROM Drive, etc?

Everything's included. This is just something I cobbled together with the help of some people from IRC. I'm going to be getting this in about a month, and I've been told that the graphics card price should drop quite a bit by then, along with one or two other bits. That should allow me to get better memory like this one,or even go for 4GB RAM (unlikely).

Also, I'm using scan, which gives me free shipping, but since you don't have enough posts here (50 i think it is), you won't get that offer yet.

Ah yeah - I already have a keyboard, mouse, monitor and speakers, so if you want them too, you'll have to severely decrease the system spec. Same if you want an operating system included too.

Sorry, could someone also recommend a good HD Moniter for the PC?

Well, once again, we'd need a size and budget. Was the previous £600-£1000 budget just for the PC, or the whole thing including the monitor?

My 20" Dell 2007WFP is pretty good, and can be found for £300ish.

AJ - Your new PC is £950 worth of decent components, and you are putting it in an Akasa Zen?

At least go for something like the Eclipse - much better case. Thats like putting a Porsche Engine in a fiesta bodyshell - not exactly a brilliant idea

    Otherwise, looks very nice

    I'll second that.

I built a system in a Zen and wasn't impressed with it at all.

Build quality wasn't good and the stealth drive wouldn't close properly.

OK, you don't like the Zen, but why on earth would I spend 80 quid on a case? That would put it way over my £1000 budget, meaning I'd have to decrease the spec of the rest of the system, which I think is more important.

Anyway, this thread isn't really about my system anyway. I might make one for me a bit nearer the time in case technology/prices have changed .
