Athlon XP 333FSB and DDR 266 memory

    Hi,

I have an old XP 1700+ with 768mb DDR 266. Now I would like to upgrade the CPU to a newer one, preferably 2800+. However this 2800+ is 333fsb so my RAM is not compatible. I really do not want to update the RAM since it is a huge investment at the time I bought them. So can I just replace the chip and still get full speed of the processor? I tend not overclock the ram since it may break them.

    Thanks,

instead of 12.5 x 166 for the speed

    it will go 12.5 x 133

which is a lot slower, probably slower than a xp2500, so its worth gettin the mem

probably your best option, unless you want to upgrade, or you got some really decent pc2100 that will overclock to 166 (doubtful)

Couldn't he just unlock the multiplier, and use 133 * 15 (or whatever?).
