its turd. I would rather just not play games than use it, I have HL2, EP1, EP2 and CS:S on steam and thats it. All other games I rather play without steam eg Eve Online.

Backing up your games library every month is a sensible thing to do. After the last time my computer buggered up and i had to download 50 odd GB of games i make sure to do it every month (assuming i have installed a new game). Personally i have never had steam stop running games like some have mentioned but having backup migh fix this rather than having to reinstall.
I really like steam but one thing that bugs me is some games (like bioshock) you have still have to use the developers DRM.
I've not used it much since getting rid of my gaming PC, just for the odd casual game, steam itself always feels 'bloaty' to me.
I've still got episode 1 of SiN, patiently waiting for Ep2
Snap!!!
I have been using steam since the day half life 2 came out and i must be one of the lucky ones then i ahve always got my maximum download speed from steam and never had any issues installing games even when i had steam on a second drive i would install new versions of windows and pop into the steam folder delete the client registry.blob file launch steam and it would find all my games and replace the file so they worked fine.
The only thing i dont like is when i buy a non steam game like Cod MW 2 or empire total war and the first time i go to play it i have to activate it via steam so i cant sell it on that annoys me, if i buy a game from steam i understand this but MW2 cost me £35 and i wasn't sure i'd play the multiplayer which would have meant selling it on after but if i wanted to i now can't.
All in all though i thinks it's good no finding discs for games no having to find patches for games it just works.
Must agree with a few people in this thread, since I started using steam a few years ago I've never really had any problems with it. I tried installing the UI beta, but for some reason it keeps crashing so I'm waiting for a fix.
One of the main reasons I love steam is the automatic updates. I've re-bought a number of games I own already so I don't have to mess about updating them.
Anyone else have problems with the store browser page appearing properly? Have this issue on both my PCs at times.
It appears Ok, but I've never been able to buy anything through the Steam client. I always have to fire up the browser.
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
I love it, the ability to just do a rebuild install steam set my games installing and then head off to work back in the evening ready to game, pure joy

Steam is a bit of a neusance at times.
I love Steam
Their sales are brilliant.
Managed to grab L4D and RAGE for like £3.50 each and the GTA collection for £4.99!
Amazing
Steam is great and all, but reinstalling your game library on a 3gb per day bandwidth cap is a nightmare.
I personally like steam, all my games are easy to access and I am not looking around for cd's/dvd's just to get a game running, however the one thing I do hate on it is not being able to play 2 games at the same time.
For instance, I may wish to play Metro 2033, but my daughter wants to play Lego Batman, nope it isn't going to happen as it will normally shut down the other program when someone else is logged in, I don't see the problem myself, I paid for 2 games, I should be able to play them at the same time, its not like I am trying to play the same game at the same time, I can understand the rules on that and thats fine by me.

I've warmed to Steam. The sales are the highlight for me..oh, and i like the workshops and new Community beta.
I'm moving away from Steam after the last T&C implementation. I'm not against the T&C implementation itself (its the one saying you agree not to take a class action lawsuit against Valve) its the fact that VAlve essentially held my games to ransom.
If you didn't agree to the T&C changes you couldn't access your Steam account, if you can't access your Steam account you can't play your games, even the ones you bought at retail like Skyrim, and to top it off to set your account to offline you have to log into it first which means you can't even go into offline mode until you accept the T&Cs.
At least on my Xbox I can still play my retail discs without needing Microsoft's approval.
