zak you just gotta remember that it was a trail lesson, not much happens in them. but there is nothing more thrilling then flying yourself about with no one next to you. I've been flying gliders for nearly 4 years, got nearly 50 hours TT with nearly 10 of them solo and its brilliant. because you can actually do what you want, and yes aerobatics are awesome and yes before anyone says anything gliders can do aerobatics just as well as power planes

I reckon you'd have had a better time if it was a little more windy m8

Gliders are a bigger challenge.....no doubt...better awareness for clouds and heat, better excitement levels...and harder.

Utmost respect for Glider pilots mate...utmost. A Salesmanager I used to work for was a glider aviator.....top bloke. Very considered in his approach and a great planner.....never did fly with him

    But....the thing is...

    I LIKE ENGINES

aye gliding is def a challenge, but like you i'm very much an engines person, I've just been gliding at uni because its so cheap. 9 quid gets you about an hour in the air

Once i've finished uni (2months time!) and if I can get my class 1 I'll be starting my commerical power training to try and get the fabbled ATPL

    lol, up-chuck, anyone?

Gawd, the number of people who yawn their lunch after a few downdrafts is amazing...

Reckon Zak'd be ok though, he's used to motion and not looking where he's going from the rallying... Mrs Deck, on the other hand, goes green if I take speed bumps too fast....

    hehe - I did

Well - nearly ! lets just say it was a tad windy that day, the altimeter was bouncing up and down +/- 200ft and pointless trying to trim her out

As the instructor took controll a few seconds before touchdown my breakfast was making a serious bid to re-appear

    It didn't - thankfully

Nine quid! Corrrr .... that is cheap. I might have to try that someday. I've always loved that bit in the original 'Thomas Crown Affair' where Steve McQueen swoops in over some trees to land. I've always wondered if he did it himself - he flew Stearman's, so I guess it's possible that he was a glider pilot too.

Good luck with the class 1 and ATPL. I hear the aviation industry is picking up a bit, so maybe you've timed it right.
