    tried these last night.. no appreciable difference tbh.. but maybe that just means I have to upgrade me mainboard and memory a bit... can only run on 4x AGP

    my £0.02....

    the game engine is too heavily coded for any normal vid card at Perfect settings.....it must be drawing every blade of grass for 100 miles in every direction...

    SCSI HDD
    Radeon 9800 Pro at fast speeds... Hexus review sample....

    no WAY will it run Perfect mode with 6x AA and zero AF ...its just dire!

    In fairness its 'tweaked' perfect m8

    I don't use AF - at all - ever. I just don't see the benefit of it, and if anything it just blurs and makes things too soft. AA stays at 2xAA, admittedly the AA on Nvidias is nowhere near as good as the ATis, however perfect mode needs horsepower to run

    Go into your Il2 folder and find the config.ini file, open it with word pad and scroll to the bottom to Open GL values

    change the hardware shaders value to 1, forests to 2 (or 3) and water to 0
    (water is the most important)

    Now tell me you can't run it in perfect

    I always run in perfect - as was the case at Trigs LAN. This is on an XP2200 1GbDDR333 and Fx5900(5950)

    rarely goes under 30fps and no less smooth than in excellent mode.
    Water looks better, more individual trees, and most importantly greater view distance at high altitude, I could never go back to less than perfect.

    Theres no reason why any of you ATI 9800 boys shouldn't be running it very smoothly in perfect mode
