    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and it is fast, works great, is very stable, and there's a lot of support for it. Everything is running fine for me and I wouldn't risk all that for Windows 8. It's not like going from Windows XP to Windows 7, so I would skip Windows 8 and wait for the next OS. The choice is yours though.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

Bit of an old thread but I recently installed Windows 8 and kept it for about a week - I have reverted back to Windows 7.

My main gripes are that it isn't any easier to use, it's not any easier to access programs and documents, it's the same - just slightly different - the metro home screen also lacks meaningful, relevant well designed applications, I find it irritating to have an icon on the home screen that isn't a live tile.

I also dislike how integrated it wants you to be with the Microsoft cloud, I do not want your Xbox games, or Xbox movies/store etc, no I do not want my documents on your Cloud, no I do not want my junk Hotmail account as a primary login account for this PC - it is frustrating to say the least.

I also dislike having to move my mouse to certain corners of the screen and having to wait for the menu to pop on the side, these side menus are also inconsistent as you get different options when in different screens, for example when in the metro screen you get different options from when you are on the desktop - I find it very annoying!

Needless to say, when using Windows 8 I felt like I should be using a tablet device.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I'm still running Win7 64-bit and not planning to upgrade anytime soon. This OS has been working great for me...although I'm worried about the day when Microsoft will officially stop supporting it. Does anyone have an idea when this could happen?

I myself run windows 7 64 bit and see no need to upgrade to windows 8 yet. W7 works fine for all my gaming needs.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

Win 9 is due out mid 2015. Wait and see what that brings. Hopefully it will sort out all the niggles people have with win 8. Till then Win 7 64bit FTW.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I switched to window 8.1 x64 a few months ago great OS more responsive and a big speed improvement not having to mess around with 3 cds worth of drivers as 8.1 did it all instantly vs win 7 was very very nice the one thing to look out for though if you install it make you don't have any other hdd's plugged in I installed it on my SSD and had to reinstall it after it wouldn't boot up without hdd and had to wait on hdd to install programs or open some of them.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

Im still on win 7, ill probably stay on it until windows 9 - hopefully they will then have a desktop version and not the metro hybrid thing that looks feels like the final creature from the fly...
there are no advantages to windos 8 really for gaming that ive seen so far...

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I'm still running Win 7 64-bit, if you are going to upgrade go to 8.1. It's kind of worked out like Server 2008 did, R2 has many more uses and is just simply better.

... except Server 2008 is Vista and Server 2008 R2 is Win7, so they're entirely different operating systems..
(same as Server 2012 is Win8 and Server 2012 R2 is Win8.1, just that it's not a completely different OS-base in that case)

You expanded on what I said to clarify everything, but you got what I was getting at.
