    Win 7 64-bit?

I normally wait a while, sometimes a year, if not more, until I upgrade to the next OS (Win8); but I keep hearing Win7 64-bit is still a good stable OS for gaming (by the way, I'm playing WoWP beta, Bioshock, and getting GTA V when it comes out next year). How many of you are currently running Win7 64-bit? Should I just upgrade now? (your comments/thought will help me a lot, thanks in advance).

if you have it stick with it. win8 not that big a leap and a lot of folk aren't fond of the UI. (no start button etc). I'm on win7-64 and have no intention of changing that situation any time soon.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

Thank you ik9000! Very helpful. I guess I can stick with Win7 64-bit for a little while longer. After all it hasn't crashed or given me any problems (aside some minor patching issues)...

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

At the moment performance wise Win 7 is same as Win8 with almost all games. I think only Battlefield 4 runs slightly better on Win8 in multiplayer. That's due to newer DirectX on Win8 which wont be released on Win7.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

Been using Win7-64 for a year or so. No major complaints from me, aside from the search in File Manager being awesomely useless.
I use Classic UI, so I'd really miss my Start button in Win8 (I know there's an upgrade/add-on for one).

It's not the DX - there is something else too, which when I get home I will find the link and post.

That would be very helpful :-)
BTW I've learned the latest version for Win 7 is DX11, the other, newer ones are for Win 8 and beyond...

Ms for years have made a good os and then a shoddy os and then a good one. Its their sales tactic and probably one of the reason why steam are making their own os.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I prefer using windows 7, for me windows 8 is a step down due to all those extra non needed features.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I upgraded from XP to win 7 64-bit a few years ago. I have not had any issues but windows 8 is suppose to some nice features for gfx. I am mainly into BF4 and was wondering if the gfx drivers are an enhancement and worth the step up to win 8.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

there is a boost to BF4 in win 8 over win 7. take a look through the bf4 threads to find the links to the test sites. it will also be interesting to see what difference mantle makes when AMD finally release it.

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

I'd stick with W7, if I were you. Apparently the only good thing about W8, is that it boots faster off an ssd. (i.e, 8 secs, vs 14 secs for W7, etc)

I have been gaming on window 8.1 x64 with no problems. if you don't mind the metro/modern interface, it's actually a fantastic OS

    Re: Win 7 64-bit?

Both are really good operating systems, but sometimes Windows 8 can be a bit tempermental with old games or Lan gaming, but once you get used to it, then you should be fine.
