Christ I don't mean to bump an older thread for the sake of it but Dek linked it for me and I have just read EVERY page, and the game review, as well as a fair few threads over at UBI.

NEVER, I say NEVER have I ever seen such blatantly appalling moderating as that guy T_O_A_D displayed, it was completely ridiculous, almost a caricature! I honest pity the poor bloke if he genuinely believes he acts justly, fairly or indeed sanely in almost any of the threads. I'm a moderator at a bustling overclockers forum, unpaid naturally, and does that make any difference...? Do I lock threads and threaten people willy-nilly? Do I bollocks, I treat it like it should be treated, as an extension of my hobby, and a chance to give something back to the people who come to the forum.

I read the game review also and I can honestly say that though I have'nt played it, if the concerns he raises in the review, along with all of the bugs and faults are true, then the score would be justified. A game that is released unfinished, IRREGARDLESS of whether it will be patched to perfection in a few week, reeks of laziness and sloppy programming. What else can it be? Can anyone seriously give me an excuse that would even remotely hold up? A patch should be designed to add to or increase longevity of a game, not make the thing bloody work properly.

Anyway i'll shut up now, it's just that after wasting over half-an-hour of my life reading some of the frankly ludicrous threads and, childish, unreasoned and oft nasty comments from fanboys (Fly_by_Fire), hicks, and power-mad imbecillic moderators (raise your hands T_O_A_D) a quick rant was the least I could do. It's a bloody game and one man gave his honest opinion on it, as any reviewer worth his salt does. This draws such petty kne-jerk reactions from supposedly grown men that it is enough to make you seriously, seriously wonder. Shameful.

Sorry for harping on, it just really wound me up.

    Rich.

This may seem to be a relatively hard assessment of Pacific Fighters.
The game is solid, well made and overall gives the player exactly what he or she wants from a Pacific War simulation.
lol, right, so deflect any abuse and then tell the simmer exactly what he wants to hear... oh dear....

No mention of the AI flying into hills! Or of the lack of flyable carrier based torpedo bombers in a Pacific Theatre game. Or of the lack of flyable Japanese multi-engines. Or of the fact that the Eauropean and Pacific theatre aircraft are slightly mismatched. Or . . .

    . . . well I could go on.

There was a lot of excusing of criticism. Lines like, "This isn't a slam, but. . ." It's a shame when reviewers can't give critical opinion for fear of being burned by the backlash.

Oh well. Its only because it gives good advertising. Their website will be mentioned on the PF one and hence get more visits.

Could be REALLY cynical and suggest that it was the only way a review was going to get up on the site....

But I have no grounds other than my experience of what that site is like if you fly in the face of convention....

(no pun intended, but a good one nonetheless!)

Did you read the review or skim it?
" hate to say this, but the lack of flyable carrier born torpedo bombers has to be one of the biggest disappointments I have in this game... Its not that torpedoes aren’t modeled in the game. Both the IL-2 He111 and Beaufighter carry torpedoes in the game."

Possibly part of the reason for this has come to light recently with the whole Northrop trademark issue.

I think that it addresses many of the same points but aimed at a different readership than here. At SimHQ they probably expect people to be aware of downloads etc. for the game & also to be able to trawl their forums for input.
