I hate using those VVS planes for BnZ/energy fighting, they break up at such low speeds and there handling at 350+mph is terrible. I guess Im to used to playing with jugs...ooo err missus!

but when you see that BF109 above you, you still fill the seat of the trusty Yak
how to combat it....
and IF you are up high...in your Lagg .....and you see someone below you.....do you dive (like I did on Sat night) AND rip off the aerilons and then the elevators
first you need to BE in an Energy Fighter to get it all to work.
and to make that decision innevitably means (unless its a SPit) you CANT play the turn and burn game really

I feel very happy in a FW190 and therefore realy should get my arse into a P47 more....but to even SPOT a bad guy from one of those, when Im doing 500 kph at 7000 makes it hard

bear in mind he figures are in FEET....and I;-2 is in METERS...so divide by 3 for a rough guide. (ie 2700 metres is hard deck) and alt advantage of over 700 metres.Originally Posted by Twist

Zak, I think thats why people hate the Spit so much, its such an excellent plane in all respects and is so easy to fly and will fight at all altitudes well. Its just like what every real fighter pilot has ever said about it, its a bitch to land and take off but once in the air its a dream with perfect characteristics in most areas.
Its just something about me and VVS planes...I really don't get on well with them. They break up and fall apart when going a bit quick, don't carry much ammo, have bad performance up high. If I have to fly VVS I try to take a P39N1 or lend lease UK or US plane. I've seen people use them well and the nose mounted guns I really like but....Originally Posted by Zak33

Miles off at the mo...like my shooting

To maintain E.
A good example of this seems to be LAG PURSUIT. This is where the attacking plane, when turning after a target, stays on his OUTTER and therefore LOWER curve. The attacking pilot, keeps his circle wider...and as he is maintaining a wider arc, he travels further. Now this is only effective IF he is carrying more ENERGY in the form of speed, which for this debate we are.
The distance travelled is farther, and because the turn is gentler, less speed is lost.
The other huge advantage is that you end upon the blind point of the target aircraft....below and behind...because both planes are banked over.
However, for both planes the speed still scrubs away.
What worries me the most on this kind of move is that the wings are not creating lift UPWARD...they are creating it towards the centre of the turn...ie the plane is not efficient.
DO I have that right? And if so...should the pursuer break away and climb ?

To lose speed along the ground, and therefore turn tighter, we climb....scrubbing speed..until the plane turns slowly but tightly...and then drop back down again.

When I first started learning about these manuevers, the one thing that taught me most was the video clip DanglyBob posted (I think) of a low yoyo. Was a lot easier to understand
But the diagrams are very good
I have films....but no where to host them all.
