War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Downloaded it this morning, just waiting to get pesky work, family, eating, etc out of the way with.
I don't normally download games on day 1 at full price, especially ones that I strongly suspect will be buggy but I couldn't help myself - I enjoyed FO3 and FO:NV too much to not treat myself.
(Mods: feel free to move this up a level - there may be folks playing it on a PS4 or Xbone too)
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Same. I wasn't going to. Then saw it on offer via golden joysticks and gave in :(
It preloaded a few days ago and just sits there, taunting me.
Doesn't sounds like it's any better than FO3 really, just more of the same :p
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I have it, started playing it last night and hmm yes it's ok, pretty in depth but definitely more of the same, even the way you hack terminals.
However I must say I think the screenshots have been doctored as I am running on Ultra settings for everything and to be honest it looks pretty poor, textures are laughably bad to the point you wondered if they recycled them from 5 years ago.
There are as you can imagine some issues in places, invisible obstacles and one area(near a mine) I fell through the cough "concrete" floor and under the game surface! Oh dear.
I haven't had a lot if any of the problems other people seem to be having.
Do think the beginning was a bit rushed.
Does seem that half the budget has gone on advertising and making the trailers look nice.
Hopefully a few patches will fix most issues, but god I hope they improve those textures.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Would love to be playing, my boxed copy arrived this morning with a whole 5gb of data on it, having to download the other 20gig lol

There is a sticky on the steam page regarding adjusting the FOV, means some editing though.

Hmm they seemed to move the Sticky

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
So far, so good for me. No bad bugs found (yet), no graphical glitches, no real serious problems. Some minor annoyances like speech not matching up to lip movement, and overall not excellent quality of AI/script/storyline, but we all know the "main" story isn't the biggest reason we love these games.
I am not very far in (only played a little this evening after work so far), just trying to build up my first base. The workshop menu works pretty well and I have a nice new home with some beds and stuff pretty quickly. How is every one else getting on?
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I'm trying to find concrete lol

There's no spoiler tag, so highlight this if you want a hand finding concrete:
Go into workshop mode, look at cinder blocks, rubble and destroyed houses around your base, hit R and scrap them. You should get plenty of building materials, including concrete.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Cheers Allen, appreciated :)
PS: I will have to get back to you about how I get on with that one, since the patch I can't access the game, just stuck on the launcher, running the game file directly then in turn launches the launcher lol

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Ghaaar so tempted by this, however for me to buy a game around release at £40 is very rare.
I've been watching some streams and youtube videos to get an idea of it first and how it stacks up against 3 and NV
I'd be interested in peoples opinions about some of the changes/feel of it.
eg, The gun play/combat looks closer to new vegas than fallout3 although with some reading up looks like they've made some major changes under the hood to how combat and damage is done.
Well I say closer to NV but it strikes me as going farther from rpg and closer to action game.
Things like in VATS, where as before it gave an increased chance of a critical hit, now it fills a bar which you manually release for an automatic critical hit.
Another area is the changes to stats and perks and the removal of skills.
I could use the hideous term "dumbed down" but it does look like they've moved away from rpg mechanics to more of an action game/action rpg.
It's one of the main things keeping me from buy it right now
I must admit while the new stat/perk level up screen looks pretty it seems to lack a little in functionality, not as clear as doing it within the pipboy
ps Thanks for the tips about the lack of fov and mouse accel while it's nice people have figured out work arounds, not having these options in game is a black mark for me.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Well first impressions about the feel/changes:
At the moment, it feels a bit like a console port. That's almost entirely down to the interface which is quite badly suited to mouse and keyboard. The good news (and perhaps what they are relying on) is that it's entirely the sort of thing that can be easily adjusted via mods.. but given it's easy, I'm sad they didn't put more effort into PC players from that point of view. Essentially, a lot of it is designed around dual stick control and you keep having to take your hand off the mouse to press enter, or use the cursor keys (yes, really) when navigating options for building things in your stronghold type places.
Combat is OK. So far it is less VATS and more actual shooting and as you say, the critical stuff isn't very good, but it's still good enough for my wife who doesn't like shooters.
But the perk selection is actually nicer IMHO - it's less linear in a way, and it's a bit more consistent while allowing for dependencies. Seems clearer to me.
Too early to judge feel of the story etc. just yet - seems immediately more fallout 3 than NV, but has aspects of both.
Performance wise, I'm running at a mix of settings -mostly high, some ultra at 1080p on a 2gb 7870. Distances are maxed out. So modern PCs aren't going to struggle. Our other computer with a 1gb 560 struggled a lot with the opening area which had a lot of shader effects/texture gubbins, but it seems fine once out of the introduction and into the open world proper with most things on medium and distances pulled in. We should be able to increase settings a bit more I think.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Agree with Kalniel.
I do feel the dialogue is awful, very basic options like Yes/No/Don't Know/Sarcastic all laid out so one option is easy to press with a controller. Think I would have preferred less speech and more comprehensive written dialogue. Also some people where the option exists to speak just grunt and don't say anything at all even if you have just saved them or something.
Definitely feels more like a console port than a PC game that gets ported to consoles.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Left University and currently unemployed - no fallout anytime soon that's for sure!! I've even resisted the temptation to pirate it, because of how much I like the franchise and respect the developers a lot :)
What's it like people?
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I find it fun - I did notice some of the metacritic user reviews have been spammed by the same people posting in both console and PC sections. I do think some PC gamers have too many first world problems, and the whining about graphics....meh! I could understand if Bethesda started saying it was going to be the next Crysis, but they never did,but once we knew it was Creation based MONTHS ago,it was quite obvious how it would look. But TBH,I find its perfectly fine for what it is.
However,my main issues are the fact that the main character seems to walk very slowly, even when lightly loaded, which gets grating after a while and the DOG NPC is annoying as it gets in the way at times due to the way the command menu is orientated.
I do also prefer the older style menus for dialogue, and they do need to work on the animations more too!!

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Playing it on PS4, loving it! got it yesterday and played about 4hrs last night, it's very much the same old stuff but shinier, which is what I wanted I guess!
Performance is 'ok' few slow downs as is being reported everywhere. So far I've not wandered more than a short distance from the starting position but there's plenty to do, I did struggle with how to exit power armour for ages to the extent I had to Google how to do that! Not sure I'm OK with its battery running low rather than just scavenging armour in the wasteland but it does add a new element to how you use it.
I'll be playing more tonight :)
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Ahh, I really want to play this, but due to time constraints I will have to wait another week or two. At least any major bugs should hopefully be patched out by the time I play it :D

Yeah, I wondered why when I looked on Amazon there were 5 star reviews for PS4/XBox and 1 star for PC - lots of people with rural internet or monthly bandwidth restrictions (including one person with a 15GB monthly limit) having major problems with only being sent 1/5th of the game!

I think one of the first mods I make will be a change to that system. Maybe a quest for an ever lasting fusion cell, or a devise to recharge them in the workshop or something.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
It is a bit of a pain, you can still fast travel with it being dead but in the middle of battle of out exploring it could cause problems.

It seems the engine has had a bigger overhaul than people thought:

Look at the CPU scaling tests!! The game is reasonably well threaded it appears!!

Caps lock toggles "always run" (run, not sprint - it doesn't drain your AP). I have had it toggle the wrong way sometimes, especially if I switch between windows.
I'm enjoying it overall but I agree that a lot of the controls are odd - the base building stuff is really turning me off though to be honest I'm not sure that's just the controls. I also really wish they'd display the actual dialogue choices rather than just the type of response too.
Oh and it's running fine with everything at max on my GTX 970 at 1080. I've actually had it running on my monitor (1680x1050 - 16:10) and my TV (1920x1080 - 16:9). Works fine on both but you have to reset the config between them otherwise it crashes when you launch it (it wants to use a made-up 16:10 or 16:9 resolution).

First electric storm in game last night.. well atmospheric!
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I've not seen that yet, lots of mist though!
I've been avoiding the settlement building as it is apparently a bit pointless (well at least as pointless as any video game) still not got to Diamond city or whatever it's called, loving it still :)

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Me. Got about 27 hours in so far and on level 18. Played until 5am on release day then went to work.
Mr Burnout has also purchased this on her PS4. PC looks so much better.
I actually think it's better in every way to previous games. Big Fan of the Franchise and I really cannot see nothing wrong with it. If it ain't broke, then no need to fix it.
My R9 280x runs it at ultra fine with godrays turned to low. average 55fps. Drops a little in built up areas. Looks amazing though.
Will be on this for a while.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I'm enjoying it, settlement building is reasonably satisfying, although kind of annoying you can't put up internal walls/doors without farting around a lot. That being said, my 10 storey bar/hostel/mall/powerstation complete with machine gun turrets, lasers and power armor garage is kind of fun.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I haven't played it as much as I would have liked, been split between this and Starcraft II but doing ok so far, have been to Diamond City and its nice to see some side quests from interacting with different people, power armour I haven't used much as the cores run out pretty quick.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Eeks, 53 hours according to Steam... But quite a bit of that has been messing around with character builds and Sanctuary. Reasonably far into the main story, next mission is taking me far South which is apparently filled with 30+ mobs, so as I am only level 21 I'll have to level up a bit. In fact, quite a few of my side missions for BoS and Minutemen are in level 30+ areas too. Kind of a bit stuck where to go right now.
Quite enjoying my current build, although I could definitely use a bit more HP/resistance. Mainly use stealth and a silenced sniper, also have a really nice silenced, unlimited 10mm pistol. One thing that annoys me about stealth play though is that if you fire at a group of mobs from a long distance and whilst hidden, the whole group immediately charge at you and start firing. Other than that, it's pretty good.
Haven't used power armour too much, was a bit concerned about Fusion Cores not being rechargeable and fairly rare. However I currently have over 30 in my inventory, so I could start using them more I guess. Only have two right now (the T-45 you get early on and the BoS one), and not modded them much either. Need more SPECIAL points for that!
I really want to try a stealth melee build, saw a clip of someone using VATS to take out a whole group in melee, looked awesome. Also seen another video of someone one shotting a high level Deathclaw. The damage modifiers you can get are insane (Big Leagues +200%, Rooted +25%, Ninja +400%, Blitz - not a damage modifier but allows you to use VATS for melee at a greater distance, Bloody Mess +15%).
BTW, I'm playing survival, so many legendary mobs and drops it's not funny!
Really need to find some level 21 friendly areas!
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I found cores hard to get at first but now I have about 8, I don't want to use them though so I'm saving big them for bigger battles, I still don't like that I'm forced to do this.
Mucked about with building last night, still not "getting it" though.
Traders, where are they all? I've on my found one so far that has a pitiful amount of caps and I have a TON of stuff to sell just sitting in a locker in sanctuary.
And radscorpians, seriously, they're kicking my arse, what's with them?!
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Diamond City was where I found the most traders so far.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
The big change is probably the shelter building thing. For the rest, from what I've seen is about the same as Fallout 3, which was a really great game. One of the best!

Just as a heads up with the PC version, there is / was a bug with the game where if you used a terminal when coming out your character would get stuck. The way to fix this is to lock the FPS, most people seem to lock it to about 72 - 75 FPS from what I've seen, using riva tuner.
As for the game, not bought it yet, with Christmas being close, having just moved and car bills next month, I'm too skint to buy at the moment...maybe after Christmas.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I've been watching more youtube and twitch streams, while trying not to spoiler myself too much, it's tricky.
Overall it looks great (not just talking about graphics here but overall game)
I'm not going to say it's perfect or a 10/10 game because it's not.
Lipsync still needs work (although I've heard speculation that this could be more of an engine issue)
I think I preferred the old speech system, yes full voice acting is nice, but I prefer the old 1st person with blurred background camera to this 3rd person (sometimes wonky) view when talking.
I don't object to the response wheel too much, although sometimes the options can lack clarity.
My biggest issue is that it limits the responses too much, example, I was watching Hanna's (from the yogscast) live stream and she came across an npc doctor out in the middle of nowhere, speech options where basically to ask for healing, barter, gossip and end conversation, No "who are you?" or "what are you doing here?"
It might just be some of the early npc's but there doesn't seem to be as much world building conversations as in 3
Also from what I've heard all skill check conversation options are purely based off you charisma stat, there's no perk based options or other stat based options.
I've also heard bad things about the quests, in that they no longer have the multiple ways around a situation that has been a staple in all fallout games.
Has anyone found later quests of the multiple solution type, other than basic stuff like pick the lock or hack the terminal?

The conversations bothered me a little bit, but most of the depth is still there, people have taken the one word descriptions at face value without factoring in the voice acting which fleshes out the choices quite significantly.
The main downside for me is that the UI is broken as hell. Some of it can be got round (anywhere it says hit enter you can hit e for example, and shift+wasd does most of the arrow key stuff for building) but its still not been properly thought through.
As far as quest lines go. I'm not very far through the main line at all, but I've done a couple where there were either alternative routes through a dungeon or different outcomes (buy stuff, kill people for it, steal it and sneak off type of thing). Certainly doesn't feel constrained.
The skill system is awkward though. Generally I'm enjoying it more than 3 or skyrim, but maybe not as much as new vegas.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Speaking about the UI, yes, some significant changes could be made there, for instance one moment your pressing TAB to go back and exit and something else can be ESC instead, would be better if it was consistent.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I am probably getting it for the weekend, but not looking forward to it too much. Probably more to justify my bitching about Bethesda. So hard to be an old fart that remembers when 1 and 2 went out (and managed to make his favourite games out of those).
Yeaah so... Probably should make room for the young'uns, so they can find their favourites and bitch about Fallout 7 in ten years.... :shocked2:

it's not the one word I have issue with, from what I've seen so far it's pretty good, it's all to easy to make that sort of one word option too misleading/obscure to the actual speech and Bethesda done a good job on it from what I've seen so far.
My issue is the limiting of only 4 options and that most conversations seem to be relatively straight line paths.
There don't seem to be as many conversation options about the world or the NPC's as before.
I'll admit that it could just be that I've not seen them as I'm trying to not spoil it for myself too much and the world building npc's are more tied to the main plot.
That's part of the problem with full voice acting, it requires a lot more time, money and data to do than text or partial voice acting.
edit: @Bastardko you're not alone in remembering when 1 & 2 came out ;) heck I was working for virgin interactive at the time fallout2 came out (there was a buyout merger thing with interplay, so both still existed but owned part of each other and where sharing offices) so I got a copy of it off one of the producers.
edit2: note that was one of the producers at the interplay uk office not Brian Fargo, Eric DeMilt or Fred Hatch

Has anyone found any radio stations (that is, not signal beacons) other than the classical radio and diamond city radio? I don't think the classical radio works well for the fallout theme and i've already heard most of the songs played in diamond city radio via the previous installments of the series.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Last night I finally decided to go to Diamond City just so I could sell my stuff, turns out I had about 2500lbs worth so I spent ages, and ages, and ages breaking down hundreds of pipe pistols and raider armour at the benches for scrap, then I sold the rest and bought stimpacks, and that was mostly what I did last night.
Eurogamers article complaining about the weight limit annoyed me as I do feel it's a required part of the game but I entirely agree that you spend an awful lot of time in menus!
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I agree you do spend a lot of time in menu's and I do feel they could have spent a bit of extra time making the whole UI with crafting etc more appealing but overall I am enjoying the game, turns out the texture issues I had in the vault at the beginning were a known blurry texture bug.
I have managed to change the green menu's to a more appealing white :)

I just wanted to shout 'Grilled Radstag', but couldn't be bothered enough to create an account just to comment so.
It is part of the game. There are easy workarounds in game, and if it really bugs him it's small tweak in the creation kit or console to remove.

The main problem with that article is: "So, after 15 or so hours with Fallout 4" - 15 hours is hardly getting started unless you ruthlessly ignore all exploration and side quests and the management stuff, which is kind of missing the point of playing any RPG.
Anyways - attempt at a mostly spoiler free update:
I've played 25 hours so far and I haven't even set foot in Diamond City yet though I will next time I sit down to play it as I've been spending too much time on side quests, levelling up and getting kit.
I really liked the outside part of the Corvega plant - an actual 3D map whereas a lot of the other parts I've been to so far feel a bit flat an not quite finished, though I'm happy that I haven't managed to get stuck in (or fall through) the scenery once (so far). I tend to mostly "sneak and snipe" and plan my frontal assaults if I can.
I'm not hating the crafting and settlement building part as much as I did at first and I'm getting used to the interface - helps when you know you can ignore certain prompts, e.g. when it asks you to span between [r] and [enter] you can just press [r] then [e] instead. I'm quite happy with crafting weapons and armour but the base building still feels like the wrong interface - would be nice if it zoomed out into a high level overhead or isometric view and let you build a base properly if they really wanted you to get into it and you'd probably be able to avoid a lot of the 'spawn stuff in mid air' and 'can't quite get it to connect together' issues I've had so far - and it would be a lot bloody quicker. I've always been a sucker for building a better mouse trap so I'll probably do as little building building (if you see what I mean) vs building traps and defences.
As an aside I'm actually thinking about:
1) Rewinding my saves as I joined a faction to see what cool toys were available but I really prefer being "the lone wanderer" - most of the hours I put into FO3 was just exploring though I did side with the BoS in FO3 because that's where all the cool toys were - exploring being the main reason I didn't like FO:NV as much - it may be rose tinted specs but there just seemed to be a lot less incidental stuff to find, though I really loved some of the DLC (esp the Sierra Madre)
2) Ditching the power armour completely until I start getting my arse handed to me. On default (normal difficulty) at least it makes it too easy. I haven't been killed outside of doing stupid stuff yet. I might just notch up the difficulty instead but overall it feels like you're being handed the good toys too early and too easily.

This may be a bug and get patched out, but dogmeat doesn't appear to have a weight limit. Before I had local leader I used him to move essentially all the steel from red rocket to sanctuary with no problems.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I've hit the weight limit several times with Dogmeat - might only be happening for bare resource items rather that 'full' items?
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Codsworth carries the same amount as dogmeat but I gave dogmeat the boot from the off, it kept getting in the way. However a couple can carry a bit more.
Apparently though there is a way to get your companion to carry infinite items so maybe thats whats happening? If you have ordered them to pick something up?

Currently playing, wish they would sort the bugs out though, so many random crashes.

Really? I've had 1 bug where a ghoul hit me and I flew back about 500 yards off a cliff, other than that it is (touch wood) completely bug free for me. Which is a first for bethesda ime

Yeah I've had all kinds of weird bugs, sitting down to tribal and can't get back up for example. Using the latest patched version as well

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I've had exactly 2 crashes on PS4 in a single area one after another (the shopping mall place full of Mr Handys) everything else has been fine, lucky for me!
Spent another few hours on it last night, did the usual thing of aiming to go to a specific location then getting sidetracked and finding myself in a quarry/mine fighting feral ghouls, love it!
I've still only got 1 power armour frame though, you can't loot them off enemies wearing them, a precious 1 I found was stolen by a raider as I didn't realise npcs could get in them if you left them unguarded, the other frame I've seen was in the BoS training ground (from an early mission ?) which was being guarded by a protectron that was 1 shotting me so I had to run for the hills, now I can't recall where that was!
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I got the BoS one from a mission later on, it depends on how far you are into it. The problem with chatting about a game like this is because its an exploration game no one wants to give anything away so its like a series of nods and winks lol.
I haven't had any crashes, just an odd thing after that update which meant the game wouldn't start but eventually it did. I am level 17 and about 20 hours in, need to do more side quests as have been following the main story but there does seem an awful lot to do at the moment which is good :)

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I just feel sometimes I'm on a quest and the difficulty ramps up to a level I can't compete with, the trinity tower quest with the super mutant fist at the top for example
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I've found quite a few sets of power armour just in various towns etc. Odd to be abandoned there, but usually it's near a hard encounter so probably more justification from a gameplay point of view than a lore. I'm still quite low level.

Power Armour and a good shotgun are your friend.

I think all you need to do is remember to take the power core out.
Apparently it's possible to sneak up behind an npc in power armour and steal the core out of the armour, which forces them to get out of the armour.

While it was probably terribly annoying at the time, it does sound terribly funny!

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
has anyone tried the new beta drivers for their AMD GPU? apparently they've put in 'performance optimisations' for FO4, COD, battlefront and AC:S

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Well I've gone and hit the button "Purchase" in steam and it's downloading now.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I have found 5 power armour frames and have 2 complete sets. I must have about 12 power cores that I have found but you can buy them as well.

I use them and work fine. Not sure if the made any difference. Never noticed.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Without saying too much, there is a location for a full set of really good armour, but it's a bit of a pita to get, a couple of fairly tough enemies but it's well worth it. If it's interests you it's worth googling. That's all I'll say for now :)
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Heard about that. Need to be a high level to get it
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
During the Lost Patrol mission, there is a fairly easy way to get levelled power armour, even up to the X01 version as long as you are high level enough.
Also, when attacking the satellite station,a BoS Vertibird starting attacking the baddies too,but they all got killed and I ran away, but not before I managed to scavenge a whole suit of T60 armour!! However, once I re-quipped and came back again, the crashed Vertibird and dead BoS people had dissappeared and the Vertibird re-appeared and helped!! It looked like a glitch, but now I have the second best power armour behind the X01 which only spawns if you are closer to level 30.
Also,if you know there is an area with power armour, its worth starting from a previous save a few times, since if it is an incomplete set it randomly spawns which parts you get.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
That's the place I got owned by the sentry bot, I'll go back and grab the armour now I'm a higher level :)

The place with the levelled armour is the National Guard training yard.

You know, Steam has an excellent cloud storage service for screenshots. No need to get the camera out.

Could be wrong but looks like a PS4 version?

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I assumed that he was on the PC because this is the PC forum. Fallout 4 works with a PS4 controller, after all.
EDIT: I looked at his post history and he's indeed playing on the PS4, so you're right.

No idea, been avoiding the big quests and mostly scavenging so I imagine that's why, only just visited diamond city so I could sell stuff. Oh, and it's not 24hrs...
Yes I'm on PS4, could have used the share button probably but couldn't be bothered.
Finally got my 2nd power armour rig, sitting in sanctuary loaded with raider kit, will probably never use it :D

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Well steam says 4hours but I'm sure I've played more than that today.
I love the new looting system so you can very quickly pick stuff up.
On pc the controls are a mess, I need to go round and rebind stuff, but some are really clunky, eg tab is always exit, except on confirmation of exiting a crafting station, then it's e/enter and tab goes back in.
Although I still find myself hitting esc to try to exit a menu.
I don't like the new chat system, I much prefer the one from fo3, both the pause+zoom in on the npc's face and the larger more flexible choice range, they could of kept the simplified description, that's ok.
The lack of pause when you talk to someone means you can end up in situations where you're trying to talk to one npc and another walks up and talks over them, also I've had conversations with the back of npc's heads a couple of times.
I've had my first major bug, my pipboy disappeared and when I tried to quit out the game locked up, had to ctrl+alt+del to get out of it.
I got myself a set of (stolen) HOTrod T-60 power armour and I've not gone to concord yet
spoilerFrom others streams and vid's I've watched I noticed a 2nd path away from the starting vault, going north west, to the corner of the map, but no one seems to have gone that way, so I did.
I came across a man (Duke) in power armour searching a car wreck, he's from the Atom Cats garage and gives you the map location for it if you talk to him and then walks off south.
What the heck I though, did a quick auto save, snuck up behind him and pickpocked his power core, only 8% chance and made it first time. :D
I then waited for him to walk off, I then stuck core back in and legged it back to sanctuary.
Although it's still coming up as "steal" when I interact with the frame.spoiler

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Something I wish I had of known a lot lot sooner was on the inventory screen. Where it says My Inventory at the top, I didn't realise you could click the left or right arrows to bring up just weapons, apparel, aid etc, I have been scrolling like a loony through the inventory normally :/
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Also work on containers, traders and such, when you have the old style two lists to move items too and from them, you can filter both of them.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I hit 56 hours today and on level 26. Mainly roming around but I am playing on hard so get a lot of legendary baddies to kill.

IIRC,I am around level 25 or 26 and have at least 70 hours played. I have been mostly exploring and building up a few settlements.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I keep forgetting to level up, just selected 3 new perks :embarrassed:
15 hours in now, it's good, but the control dear god the controls, it's totally set up for controller and they've done :censored: all for the pc, no weapon change with mouse wheel? contextual button press for melee/grenade/mine arrgh!
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Unless I have something I immediately want, I tend to hang on to skillpoints for 2-3 levels (its definitely not that I forget about them and occasionally get annoyed by the reminder popup :shocked2:)
Currently about 35-40hrs in, around level 30.
Had a readup over the weekend. If you want to max out all your skills then you'd need to be around lvl 264 and have collected all the bobbleheads. Damn that's gonna take a while.

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
One thing I'd like to mention is that I'm getting the mipmapping texture bug
As can be seen here http://imgur.com/P0N2aQg it's doing the same thing for me, it's really noticeable, esp as it effects clothes, so you'll be talking to an npc and their skin and face is high res but clothes are really low res.
I'm going to give the ENBoost fix a try, if not there's already a mod out there to "optimise" the textures, Bethesda seems to have done all their textures in high res 2048x2048 and then apply some very aggressive mipmapping to lower the detail, they've also used some bad lossy compression to do it, the texture optimise mod is redoing all the textures in 1024x1024 with a better compression system so the mipmapping will not be so agressive.
I'll run some testing and let you guys know the results.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Well I can confirm that the ENBoost worked for me, no more blurry low res textures
I used this http://enbdev.com/mod_fallout4_v0283.htm and I changed ForceVideoMemorySize=false to true, I left VideoMemorySizeMb=4096 as it was.
Running textures at high and there's no noticeable performance difference, except no more crappy textures. :D
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I am hoping its just a glitch that will be ironed out in the patch, happened at the oddest times, for instance on the loading screens when an image is slowly turning, the edge of a bed was a nice crisp texture then turned blurry as it turned.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
It mainly seems to effect cards with 1gb vram, at least turning the whole game blurry.
From my understanding there's a lot of high res textures in the game but it's not unloading textures from the vram, so when a new texture needs to be loaded and the vram is full it drops it drops all the highest res texture for the next lowest setting to free up vram and this keeps repeating constantly dropping all the texture resolutions.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Hmm, that would explain a lot but I have a 4GB 970. I have seen it happen a few times, one minute nice texture, next blurry. In fact in my opening comments about the game I said the textures were laughable but that was before I realised it was a bug(at least I hope it is).
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Well 28hours in now lv14, so far:
- I keep forgetting you have to manually trigger crits in vats
- Bloat flies are a real pain in the ass to hit because of their movement pattern combined with their attacks causing rad damage as well has made them probably my most hated enemies in the game so far.
- speech system, I like being able to pull away from a conversation by simply moving away, for most it's ok (good when you want to swap into chr gear for checks) but that's the only part I like and it has it's downsides because I've ran past at least one conversation and it auto treated it as me saying "no" so now I cannot have that conversation, far too many conversations are too short and one off, so going back gives you no follow on (you try and talk again just to get 1 or 3 stock lines like any generic npc)
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Hehe you not come across stingwings yet then :P
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)

Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
LVL32 now and managed to get the X01 power armour - a full suit and a partial one for my follower. Also, you can get your follower to wear power armour and you don't need a fusion core in it too!
Also,if you want to get high level power armour easily there is an easy way to get it - if you see a BoS Vertibird attacking somebody,it usually gets shot down and if the Knights get killed you can take the armour. The BoS has T60B power armour and I got a few free suits of it now.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Yeah. There's a house outside Quincy that is constantly changing hands. Walked past it one way and it was stationed with Minutemen who were being attacked by Gunners, came back about 30mins later right after a vertibird got shot down. Bunch of supermutants had taken it over and the BoS attempted to take it over. 3 SM's (1 with a mingun) took out 4 BoS Knights in power armor. Was a glorious find. Pity I'm sitting with about 15 frames and enough armour to outfit another 40-50 of various gear from raider to X01 suits.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Well there is another less scruple-less way to get power armour.
I mentioned it before but I can expand on it, sneak up behind the person in power armour you want, pickpocket the power core, they will then get out of the power armour, now I think getting into the power armour will count as stealing it, however the model of a power armour is only based on the bits covering it not the internal frame.
And AFAIK it's only the internal frame that'll count as a stolen item, so you should be able to safely strip off the armour sections go back to one of your many T51 frames swap out the armour and hey presto brand new top of the line power armour ;)
It's how I picked up T60 armour in the first hour of game play ;)
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I'd heard that one but I still only have 2 frames and a very eclectic mix of armour parts!
I'm still hoarding fusion cores and I have about 12 now but don't want to use them :D
Decided to put a few points into stealth, doesn't appear to have made much difference yet, I wish I could reset my skill tree whenever I wanted
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
Power armour is level dependent, and IIRC if you visit an area it locks it to your level at the time- if you want X01 there are some locations you should not try and visit before level30 to level31.
-
Re: War... War never changes (who's playing FO4?)
I've completed the main story, I'm going to pick away at all the other offerings as I go, I've still heck of a lot to explore. Very happy with this as a purchase.
