    Pvp!!

Today is the day we get to find out our new rank,

However, something im not happy about is that you have to maintain that rank to use ya gear!

For example, at rank 6, a hunter can get "Knight Luitenants chain boots" and "Knight Luitenants chain gauntlets".............

However, drop below rank 6, and you will not be able to use them...........

So, TBH< if i got these items, id need suitable replacements in the bank in case I dropped below the required level to use them - although once you own them they are yours ....... you just cannot use them.

So a rank 14 (highest rank - 1 in 1000 people get it), that has a purple sword, must maintain his position to carry on using his sword - bet he wont get any questing done!!!!!

Worse still these items are not free - you have to buy them - although they are not exspensive, a full set of blue items could cost up to 100G

Same goes for mounts - you will have to keep ya backup mount ready in case you loose your PVP one. (rank 11)

So if you plan on getting any PVP armour / weapons / mounts - do not vend your old stuff

So doesn't that move the emphasis from PvE to PvP? Why didn't they just set up all the servers as PvP and have done with it? at least everyone would know where they stand.

I have engaged in no pvp what so ever as of yet. I think I'll just carry on questing and doing instances to get money and levels up, before attempting a rank. However I'm looking forward to the pvp aspect of the game also as nothing gets the old heart pounding like a good bit o' pvp action

Well, there is a current rant over at WoW forums about PvP and instances. Seems like a lot of players are waiting at instance entrances for people to come out. As you come out, your model is placed on the plain, whilst you are still at your loading screen. Eventhough these kills don't give you any points, it registers as an HK, which the kiddies like.

the idea will be that ppl wanting to really do pvp will live in the battlegrounds so when all the pvp battles start happening around towns there isnt any (or only afew) high lev ?? chars for ppl to have to deal with

You don't have to use the PvP rewards. I'm not really planning to buy any as I won't be able to maintain a rank which gives better gear than my PvE obtained stuff.

No you won't do much questing if you're top rank, but the odds are you'll be level 60 anyway so I doubt that's a huge deal.

Yeah, I can imagine the only people who will really stand a chance of getting the top few ranks are those that are lvl 60 and only have high level instances left to do, which must take some arranging! I'm sure I've said that before...

So, the only reason to do PvP on a PvE server is to get an honour ranking which entitles you to buy equipment. You're not buying the equipment because you might not maintain your rank and it's not any better then the PvE rewards you've been getting. This begs the question, "why bother doing PvP on PvE server in the first place?", or "Why waste time PvP'ing when you could be questing?"

I know that everyone says it's fun, and that's fair enough, but if PvP is so much fun then why not play on a PvP server? I'm not looking for an argument merely putting forward an alternative point if view, playing Devil's advocate, if you will. Looking at logically, you say that in reality only LvL60's will really benefit from the honour system and if this is true (which I don't doubt, by the way) then all PvP does is to distract lower level players from questing which is probably the main reason they chose a PvE server in the first place.

Maybe I'm just too simple minded but if you opt for a PvP server, you do so because you want, really, really want player versus player content. There's no option to turn PvP off and just quest. So I can't understand why on a PvE server, Blizzard allow you to not only turn PvP on but encourage you to concentrate on it because if you don't, you can no longer use the rewards you obtained while you were doing it.

My head hurts, I'm going for a lie down.

Well, speaking for myself personally here:
I play on a PvE server. I like the PvE. If I want to advance my character, I'll do PvE, be it instance running or whatever. I do PvP when I am not doing anything else in general, it's fun, I do it for that, not to get uber loots or whatever. Pre-60 I did virtually no PvP, I just quested and whatnot. Since hitting 60 I have a bit more slack time, and since the honour system came in there's a lot more PvP going on anyway.
Why not play PvP? Because I want to do PvP on my own terms. If I want a quiet night questing I can have one, without having to watch my back in case someone decides I should be PvPing.
I don't see the problem with having PvP on PvE servers - if gives people the choice to play how they want.

I agree with that, i enjoy some PvP and no doubt if i hit LvL60 i will enjoy it even more, but at the moment there is so much of the game i havent seen that i want to see it all, which i think would be impossible on a PvP server, there is always someone who wants to make YOU one of THEIR stats!

OK, time to reiterate the point above I think.

So perhaps we could lobby Blizzard to patch the PvP servers so that PvP can be turned off and people can play how they want

Lets get this straight, I know people enjoy it, anyone can play the game anyway they want, I'm not having a pop at anything other than the what I see as the illogical situation where you can do both on a PvE server but only PvP on a PvP server. That's all, nothing else, please don't take it personally

You can PvE on a PvP server though...

The idea behind PvP servers is that some people like the element of risk always being flagged gives. And the idea that people can't hide behind unflagged status.

That's rather specious though, isn't it? You're suggesting that PvE is simply a matter of questing and as you get to quest on both servers, you do get to do PvE on a PvP server but with the added danger of possible player attacks. I would argue, as a counter to that, that PvE is being able to quest WITHOUT the fear of a player attack and therefore it's impossible to be able to particiapte in purely PvE on a PvP server because you can't turn your flag off.

Surely they could have launched with less servers but allow people, on any server, to be permanently flagged for PvP or not. EVeryone makes a choice and then there would be some who had the danger and the fear and some who didn't. There would be no need for seperate servers. The only thing that changes the playing environment/experience is the PvP flag.
