I got GW yesterday and I would like to join at somepoint, but I am still a total newbie to GW. Is there a specific server I should join and a level I should reach before trying for the Hexus guild?

Just saw on the GW site that there is a PvP event this weekend, where all high level arenas will give double faction!

Any recommendations for a first timer? I went with elementalist at first, is it worth me trying a few classes first? if so what do you find enjoyable?

My personal favourites are Ranger and Monk.

Being a ranger is great fun, especially in PvP, a lot of people hate them, but to be honest, they don't know what they are talking about. Elementalists are good fun too, probably quite good for a first timer. Probably worth trying a couple in the pre searing, then see which ones you find the best to play as.

an early mission is to choose a second profession. as part of this, you need to find people representing the second professions, and do a mission for them - you could go with the first one you find, or try out all five and then choose.

it's a reasonable way as a beginner to try the different professions out.

Right that it! I was doing Bloodstone Fen with my monk, at the last battle, and GW crashed me to windows!

I haven't had any crashes yet (touch wood) - I just sometimes get thrown back to the log in screen when the lag is bad.

I'm edging toward Elementalist/Warrior, is it worth me doing as much as I can in the pre-searing world or should I just do a few more missions and then get on to the main event?

I let my sister have a go last night and she likes making up characters so we went through every option on the female side. So I showed her the male side and she commented on how effeminate some of the classes were (Mesmer and Ranger in particular). She commented that there should be some sort of webcam hookup to prove you are actually that build. I suggested a usb set of scales. Then again I think we thought it through too far and actually seeing the people that play GW might be a bit disturbing.

The only times GW crashed on me was when I was playing the game, and pressed the X on the top corner. About 1 of every 5 times it went to a blue screen, but the fact it worked pretty fast on Vista alone was good enough!

went into FOW with my monk, pretty incredible, but we owned everything in sight, nice drops too

I've done a few battles at the Tombs today, the PVP Extreme thing just gives you lots more faction.
