I still do not and never will understand why people cheat, it just renders the game pointless in so many ways. I know that people will though, regardless..it's just mind boggling heh - but then at least it doesnt harm other peoples enjoyment of the game, as cheating in MMORPGs does..

Sorry Allen, the original topic has gotten a little confusing as the thread has derailed slightly, moving away from the selling gold issue to cheating.

My comparison was meant regarding cheating alone and not the selling gold issue. My comparison was to point out the person I gave the gold to obtained gold without earning it. My point was the many shades between black and white.

In the case of Half Life 2, I just explained why I do it. I cannot speak for others but I would imagine it is the same.

In my opinion, an utterly deplorable act and one of the reasons I became disillusioned with Planetside

As far as i know the issue is that Blizzard technically owns the gold therefore you would need to seek permission to sell it? Sorry if that well out.

I played with someone who bought Gold in lord of the rings online. Nothing particularly happened to him from Turbine/Codemasters although the other people in the Kinship/Guild resented him more.

Which I suppose comes back to what Mr.Spud said...its cheating and alot of people view it that way, and nobody likes a cheat.

I think if your going to play an MMO and you do work a reasonable amount of hours, your going to have to accept the limatations of what you can achieve.

I believe buying gold is cheating but I suppose it comes down to personal viewpoints, and as we all play to enjoy ourselves I would say do whatever makes you happy.

Yup, and not for the first time in the last couple of months! I've dealt with the last one, but I think the time has come to close the thread.
