Auto Assault - Free Beta weekend

Apologies if this has been highlighted already. I did a quick search and couldn't see it.

NCSoft have an open beta weekend this week (Friday 27th January 2006) to load test their up and coming Auto Assault MMO.

Penny Arcade has access to it seems an unlimited number of keys but you will have to sign up there first (they only want your location and email address for the code).

    Penny Arcade

And the initial 60mb client can be got from Europe's Auto Assault pages

Bear in mind that the client will then need to update to the tune of between 2 and 3gb so if you are interested, get downloading now to be ready for friday.

I got the key two weeks back, but from all the negativity I've heard about it, I haven't even bothered to download it

i spent ages downloading the Installer and the 4Gb of updates that it required just to run the game. I then got my beta key curtosy of Penny Arcade.

I played it for about 20mins and thought it was a bit poor really. The graphics weren't great and the interface wasn't as intuitive as something like Guild Wars (which i also played the beta). Over all i got a rather poor impression of it and uninstalled it the same evening.

Bit of a waste of time downloading it tbh.

    Meh

I played it for about 30 mins on the Friday evening, then gave it another go saturday evening/sunday day and played for about 5-6 hours in total.

It has potential but the biggest problem is as time went on I cared less about the mission briefs. All I wanted to know was what I had to kill, and what to collect. This compared to WoW where I often took time to read the whole quest log and enquire with the quest giver about any additional info they had to provide where possible.

It seems to be good for a blast but a lot of stuff seemed overly complicated like the crafting. Too fiddly for my liking.

I'll probably check it out the next beta test too to see if it improves any.

playing the euro beta - where I think they're paying attention to the bugs and weird behaviour - it's pretty good so far, but crafting is a complete joke - I've got no idea what I'm doing nor how to go about it. It took me about 1 hour in RW time to repair a healing kit worth 5 coin!

Can get the beta from Game for £1.99 too if you don't want to wait for the download. Looks naff though so I'd stick to WoW
