Never used Magnetos to restart the engine. usually just cut the throttle down to idle, set the plane into a shallow dive and hit 'I' a few times till the engine starts again.
Its a bit hit and miss, but usually restarts.

to restart the I16.....chop the throttle to zero...go nose down into a gentle dive.....ignigtion off.....ignition on.....throttle gently back up...
BUT,....and Dangy pointed out to me when I survived my only VEF....dont drop too low...better gliding bacvkover safe territory with your height.
However, cos I ignore cool advice I spent the time, took a breath, restarted and off we went...
SOON as it sound like its caught, pull back up into a climb

The way I see it..........
A higher prop pitch will give a higher "grab" or "attack" of the air than a lower prop pitch... so a good place to use maximum prop pitch is in a power climb.
Otherwise, being the boss, he's right as usual

Still confused about prop pitch though so I never use it.
p.s. You mods.....I love being a "Junior Member" so when my post count gets too high please chop it back

....Yes. But am I right in thinking that it won't restart over a height of 4K? Also, fuel mix seems to play a part. It it's too rich it has difficulties restarting, just like a manual choke on a car I guess.Originally posted by Zak33

'Make mine a Spitfire, Landlord!'
not used the magnetos or the pitch..
Then agian I aint mapped half the keys I need to yet
I thought the I16s couldnt be started in the air.. cos they needed one of those starter lorries ?
Restarting in the air is defintely possible. I do it quite alot . Though I don't think it was possible in the original IL2 game. Not sure why Oleg changed this, but I'm glad he did.Originally posted by Hat

omg.. never knew that had been changed! The number of times ive put the thing down on a bit of grass and didnt need too!
IF the props spinning then I cant see why not tho, it'd work the same as bumping a car no?
yup
I did it in VEF the other day, cos Dangy told me how

For the I16 at about 4K you need to reduce the fuel mixture. set to 60 or 80% and then restart..Originally posted by Mobydick
