Canon 300D + 18-55mm Lense for £140 - Worth it?

Hi all,

A friend has offered me a Canon 300D + 18-55mm Lense for £140.

This will be my first dslr and I thought for that price it would be a good starting point to play about with.

What does everyone think to that price? Is it worth it? And is it worth it as a beginners dslr?

That sounds about the going rate. I don't think it's a great bargain though.

seeing as its coming from your friend and i guess you know how he's treated his kit i'd go with it. but honestly, you can pick up a 20D for around 180 these days, offer 110 + you want a memory card to go with it

As you mention I know how he has treated his kit and he does really look after his stuff.

He is already supplying me with a 512mb card and a filter (he just said it helps protect the lense).

He was offered £100 Part exchange for it as he is buying the Canon 550. So I dont really want to try beating his price down for £20-30.

From what I can tell... its an ok bargain especially if he has looked after it well.
