    Question Bridge Camera?

I've got a Fuji S5600 (cheers Splash) which is only 5.1MP but it's getting me used to settings etc (slowly)

I've now seen this Fujifilm FinePix S1800 which at 12MP, 18x zoom seems good for £117. Would this be a worthwhile 'upgrade' from what I'm using do you think?

    EDIT: £91 from Fuji direct!

I'm not prepared to pay hundreds just yet for a low/mid range DSLR just yet

    Cheers togs!

    Rob

    Re: Bridge Camera?

i would buy a 2nd hand dslr if you can add a bit more to that budget.

    something like http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/for...d.php?t=302034 ?

This would be a relatively cheap upgrade, I can't see that camera (need to sign up to view threads) what was it?

Not just to view a camera for sale thread no!

It's nearly double the Fuji, what extra am I getting for that sort of money as I know it's still low-end for a DSLR. I do like my zoom though

EDIT: The S2500HD is the same as the S1800 but with HDMI, if you're saying it's good then that's good

    Re: Bridge Camera?

Yep. The 2800 has a couple more pixels, but they look pretty much the same to me.

I didn't like the idea of buying a 2nd hand camera, as its not something i could fix myself if it goes wrong. You can get a 5 year warranty from a lot of uk based online camera shops.

I think you'll be pleased with the S1800.

    Re: Bridge Camera?

Aah the 2800 sorry, I was thinking of the 2500

I think I'm ok with a refurb as it's from Fuji themselves, happier to buy from them than off a forum or something anyway

Poped my old camera on eBay, finger hovering over the order button on this unless someone talks me out of it within the next 30mins!

    Re: Bridge Camera?

Yeah i agree, a refurb from Fuji themselves should be fine. I assume it has a year or two warranty included?

Don't forget you can try it out for a few days and then return i under the DSR if you decide you don't like it. I think!

    Re: Bridge Camera?

Well it came today (how fast?!) and so far it's all looking good. 1yr warranty as well.

Looks like new, all the bits are new & sealed. Popped a 2GB SD card in & it's snapping away, loving the 18X zoom!

EDIT: Just tried to get a few sample snaps but the weather here is grey & miserable so it probably won't do it justice!

    Re: Bridge Camera?

I did thanks (although I 'popped' it on eBay not 'Poped' it!)

I loved the pics that came out of the S5600, I have a decent 10MP Compact though & although 5MP was obviously sub-par in terms of pixels there was just 'something' about the pics taken with the S5600 camera that made me want to upgrade. It was my bridge-bridge camera you could say!

I can't afford a DSLR so for now at least this new one is perfect for me, hell I'm still struggling with the options...

A puts stuff in/out of focus?
S for shutter speed (I still have to take a pic first to see if it's light/dark, I don't just 'know' yet)
    P for...umm...summat or other

    Re: Bridge Camera?

A=Aperture Priority (ie you set the aperture, and the cam will do the maths for the shutter speed required)
S=Shutter Priority (inverse of the above)
P=erm... Programmed Auto. Not the easiest to explain, but allows you to set both aperture and shutter, white balance and the rest should be taken care of by the camera. Not something you're likely to use much until you have a better understanding of exposure (speaking of which, pick yourself up a copy of Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Best photography book I ever bought)

Glad you got bitten by the bug though - it can be very satisfying.
