EF-M is a canon camera from 1991
yea I wondered what the hell EF-M was....but this is the mount?
meh.
Woo it's official.
200 dollar for an adaptor for EF/EF-S lenses...hmm
Looking at the European price,it looks like the camera will be over £600 with a standard lens.
About where the price was expected then. Looks pretty good - I'd prefer a mode dial rather than having to use menus, but it's clear this one is aimed more at the compact shooter wanting to upgrade to interchangeable lenses than a DSLR shooter wanting a second compact camera. Hopefully this'll gain enough traction that they'll look at a more enthusiast model in the future.

£770 to £880!! Canon can keep it for that price!!
So for around the price of the EF-M with the 22MM lens I could get a Panasonic G3 kit and a Nikon D5100 kit:

Yea I just saw that wex price in my emails...i was hoping more around the 400 mark! :-\ hopefully it will go down
The EF-M is overpriced you could buy BOTH a D5100 and a G3 for around the same price. The G3 is a mirrorless body and has the advantage of less bulkier lenses too.
Your pricing is off too.
The NEX5N kit was £599 at launch:

The G3 kit was £629 at launch:

The GX1 kit was £599 at launch this year:

The Pentax K01 kit was £629 at launch this year:

All are now cheaper than their launch prices.
The EF-M is £150 too expensive in its cheapest kit form.
Moreover,look at the body:

Yay!! Multiple colours and virtually no hand grip. This is a fashion camera made for people who had compacts previously but priced higher than any of the competitors. This camera is neither here nor there for something costing around nearly £800 to £900.
If this was more like the NEX7 or X PRO 1 then perhaps I would think differently.

It's still a DSLR-style body, not a compact like this. Different category altogether.
Looks great to me. I agree, it's made for people who previously had compacts, but what's wrong with that? Early adopter price is high of course, but it's really where I expected it (high yen doesn't help). The EF-M is £150 too expensive in its cheapest kit form.

What about the GX1,G3,NEX5N and the others then which are NOT dSLR style bodies? These are in the same category though and cheaper at launch. Moreover,as the G3 is also targetting people upgrading from compacts it is targeting the same market too and it is still cheaper.
Nothing that much wrong with the camera, apart from the grip and the need to trawl through menus, although it probably makes sense for the target market, except it is overpriced at launch even compared to other cameras launched this year in the same category. Moreover, the high Yen would also affect the prices of the other cameras too especially the ones launched only a few months ago.
For a person upgrading from a compact one of the cheaper cameras which are in EXACTLY the same category would produce similar results. They are most likely to be plonking this on auto anyway.
But of course since the other cameras are cheaper, you could factor in an additional lens for the same price or one with a kit zoom with a bigger range. After all this is a step-up camera after all!!
Anyway,we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
