    New office rig question

Bro in law needs a new rig the specification I have been given is
    Cheap
    Win7
    office tasks
    internet
    watch DvDs

I could build for him but tend to opt for cheap dells for occasions like this. These seem to be resonable prices, any comments, any better options, will the Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz be worth getting over the sempron?

    AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz Windows 7 Home Premium None 2048MB 320GB ATI Radeon HD4200 DVD Writer £299 D005701

    AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz Windows 7 Home Premium None 2048MB 320GB ATI Radeon HD4200 DVD Writer £329 D005704

    AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz Windows 7 Home Premium None 4096MB 320GB ATI Radeon HD4200 DVD Writer £349 D005702

    AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz Windows 7 Home Premium None 4096MB 500GB ATI Radeon HD4200 DVD Writer £369 D005703

    AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz Windows 7 Home Premium None 4096MB 320GB ATI Radeon HD4200 DVD Writer £369 D005705

    AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz Windows 7 Home Premium None 4096MB 500GB ATI Radeon HD4200 DVD Writer £389 D005706

    Re: New office rig question

I've got a Sempron 140 here, and while its cheap and cheerful for what my mum uses it for (office, browsing) it is pretty slow and I would definitely get the X2.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I would not go for a sempron they are very slow. Semprons have very low cache

I was going to say how an off the shelf Dell/HP would more than do the job, then I noticed the thread was A YEAR OLD!

Lol, you saved me from the same fate, I was about to jump to the defence of the noble Sempron 140 (which is a damn fine processor) until I read your comment. Wonder if Cabidge will stay around now they've got past 20 posts...

EDIT: Also Cabidge needs to check his facts, the Sempy 140 has 1M L2 cache, same per core as the Athlon II X2...

If you are happy to go with second hand stuff there are some bargains to be had, I picked up an HP mini desktop with an E6600 Core 2 duo in it for £60 off ebay. Its currently serving me well as my home theatre pc.

It's time to close this one, though.
