Cousin wants a "1337" BF3 rig, I dont want to get phone calls every 2 minutes.

This would be easy if I could trust him not to be an idiot and break stuff, but I can't and I know it's gonna be one big hassle if I build something for him.

Looking for something that will run BF3 at high/ultra with a budget of about £1100. I feel like good customer service and a good long service plan are going to be needed.

Two part question I suppose. - who has the best after purchase and what system looks decent.

Re: Cousin wants a "1337" BF3 rig, I dont want to get phone calls every 2 minutes.

Judging by http://forums.hexus.net/scan-3xs-sys...s-support.html you've already decided to go prebuilt. Good thinking.

If you get him to buy it prebuilt, then if anything goes wrong it's between him and the company that built it, not you.

Would I suggest 3XS? Yes. I just bought a PC from them actually. I guess I should probably hold back on recommending, in case it's a pile of junk when it arrives, but judging by people's enthusiasm regarding their new machines in the 3XS forum, that seems unlikely.

If you go for someone like Dell, Alienware, or even some of the better, more enthusiast manufacturers you see advertised in Custom PC and the like, then you're not going to get exactly what you want - you're being told what you're going to get to some extent.

With Scan you've got the option of tailoring a system build to your exact requirements, right down to the brand of fans you prefer. Okay, they might not be the only people to do custom builds, but firstly they've got a huge array of components available that you can see on their online shop, not just a tiny list of options that their build team prefer to use, and secondly, they've got a good support network on here if anything ever goes wrong with it and all of their machines seem to be built individually. Have a look at some of the build pictures - the cable tidying and so on is done with a lot of care, not just another machine on the production line.

I am very enthusiastic with my support, yes, because I really appreciate the work they do - the 3XS team produces some fantastic machines. And I'm in no way a stooge... I've had enough showdowns with Scan's retail arm regarding returns and so on in the past(!), but to their credit we've always got there in the end.

Have a look at this thread by CAT: http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware/...er-2011-a.html

Take the £750 as a starting point (you can upgrade one or two parts later if you want, and some of your budget will be needed for build fees and others bits and bobs), and see what you like the look of from his thread. Then go onto the 3XS website and start playing around with some of the builds, and see what you can replicate from his advice.

If you've got a bit of money spare still, have a look at the upgrades they offer and see if you might want - an SSD/bigger HDD/faster graphics card so on. Or if you're unsure, post the rough spec you're interested in, and see what people recommend as a worthwhile upgrade for £200 or whatever over the original spec.

Scan definately seems to be winning, after having a play around I can just put an ssd in for now, and hopefully they will respond saying its ok to add a HDD at a later date and still support it.

    This - http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1430

Looks like a perfect start, £100 over budget, put swap the gtx680 for a gtx580 and its pretty much right on the money

Just be aware you'll struggle to run Ultra on anything less than 2Gb vRAM on the graphics card. The GTX580 has 1.5Gb, so is really pushing it. You might be better with a 6970 2Gb for BF3 on Ultra.

I think you can even get scan to put the cables in place for you so when you add your HDD all you have to do is drop the drive in and attach the already cable managed SATA and Power cables to the drive.

BF3 can run fine on ultra settings with a decent 1GB card... My brothers 1GB Radeon 6950 seems to do the job just fine (my OC'd 6870 copes surprisingly well on ultra settings too ). I would go with more Vram if using insane resolutions or a triple display setup (such as eyefinty). Most gamers will probably be using resolutions such as 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 with a single display.

Amazing, nothing makes you look like an idiot like replying to a thread with a recent reply, not checking the date, then the recent reply being deleted - leaving you top of the chain!

Im sure there were 1 or 2 other responses above mine? I totally didnt check the OP date though :/
