    Want to buy custom Laptop

I can't remember the site but they had very high spec laptops. I am after a USB3.0 capable laptop with 560 sli and the rest I will sort.

Does anyone know where I should look for this? Alienware currently don't have USB3.0 otherwise I would go down that route. Thanks

Have you considered the HP Envy range?

Yup - given they are almost always rebrands from the like of MSI and a few others at reduced costs, they can be worth it.

My only recommendation (sorry leonkehoe) is to stay away from HP. I've seen so many fail over the last few years I just can't recommend them.

Feel as though I should probably drop in here to share my (differing) experiences.

A former employer of mine used only HP kit, and I think we had probably fifty desktops and ten laptops - no failures other than two hard drives that started to go a bit dodgy. I also own a budget HP netbook which has been absolutely fine.

Not saying I would recommend them for gaming or high performance - I've never used one with a modern nVidia/AMD graphics chip - but in terms of reliability they've been top notch. Build quality isn't in line with say a Lenovo, but it's definitely good.

I would put down HP too, see loads of them fail. At least 5 in the past few months with grinding fans, some even within warranty. The touch-pads are also horrible, as is the customer service. Also saw one with a charger that killed the laptop and was putting out 25v instead of 18.5.

Only ever seen 2 dead Lenovo's. EVER. (You cant game on a thinkpad though)

HP equipment in general I think is actually pretty good. Most of our stuff at work is exclusively HP too, and I can't report any major problems with their stuff apart from the laptops.

Most of these have been screen issues - going to black, flickering, green lines down the screen, randomly turning off, backlights failing, we've pretty much seen everything that can happen to a TFT happen to our HPs.

The sample size is enough that I would never recommend them to others as we had to move to a different brand/s.

let not forget to give HP customer support a shout here, i had the displeasure of work landing a contract with them, you HAD to contact indian support who HAD to read off the list and EVEN if you said it was a faulty hard drive and you could prove this as you had swapped it out an engineer would arrive at UPS the following day and find he had a motherboard waiting for him.

it got better, we had no choice but to use the same support line, no dedicated tech number for the engineers, 50% of the time they would ship the same part again as they had so little understanding of the situation they reverted to the computer screen...

Re: Want to buy custom Laptop

Wow, brutal. To be honest I only suggested the Envy range as for me it's one of the three 'premium' brands out there; the other two being Alienware and DELL's XPS range both of which had already been mentioned.

HP sell a lot of laptops to large business who buy cheap and in bulk. There are a lot people who work in IT on here (understandably) who work with these cheap, bulk-bought models every day.

If you want a real world view of a laptop manufacturer's wares ask a few friends that own or have owned them. I'm very happy with my DM3 but I'd never recommend the HP laptop I use at work on a day to day basis. Quality between a premium model consumer laptop and a bulk bought model for business can be like night and day.
