    6490m GPU

I was burgled yesterday and had my laptop stolen, amongst other things. I've been looking around for a similar replacement to play games on.

My laptop was an Acer 5745DG with an i3 around 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive, and an Nvidia 425m GPU. It had a 3D screen but that wasn't a selling point for me.

What is the 6490m like and how does it compare to the 425m? I could happily play most of my games on medium or slightly lower settings at 1366x768 with the 425m.

THIS is the laptop I was looking at. It works out around £540, which doesn't seem too bad given that electronics in New Zealand are very expensive.

    Re: 6490m GPU

    There's a rough approximation here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html

Seems the 425m is a bit faster.

If you look at the bottom of this page: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Rad...M.43843.0.html there is some info about gaming benchmarks.

    Re: 6490m GPU

Thanks for the link. Looks like the 425m is a fair bit quicker. I'll keep looking.

Edit: I went out and bought THIS one from Dick Smith. The 525m is marginally quicker than the 425m, but this one has a much bigger hard drive and a better CPU. About the same price as I paid for the old one, at about £500.

It's infuriating to realise how @settled in@ you get with a laptop. For instance, getting used to having the "quote" marks above the 2 key instead of the @ sign. But also things like bookmarks and little programs you use every now and then. My desktop PC still has all my bookmarks and stuff but it's back in Britain.

I had almost finished downloading all 8GB of Deus EX: HR. New Zealand has monthly data caps on broadband connections, so that was a waste of 8GB.
