    Which Power Laptop ?

    Hi all,

I am looking to buy a new laptop and looking for something fairly powerful with an i7, 108-p screen and discrete graphics card.

The laptop will be used for the usual net surfing etc but also for video editing, photo editing and the kids to play the occasional PC game.

Budget is ideally £1k but may spend a little more if worth it.

What would people recommend. I have been looking at custom built laptops like PC Specialist but also at branded laptops like Lenovo, Asus and MSI.

Would people go for a custom over a brand ? Is build quality etc up to the branded versions ?

    Thanks for your help

Ah right. Well, you've got the Dell 15z, Asus N56, and many many others. PC Pro seem to recommend the N56 or 15R...

    Re: Which Power Laptop ?

Thanks Smudger. I already looked at the PC Pro list (always good for a starting point) and was interested in teh N56 but got put off by it not having a backlit keyboard. I then starting looking at other setups like the Lenovo Y580 which seemed to have higher spec components and then strayed onto custom built PCs from teh likes of Scan, PC SPecialist and Cyber Power and really confused now !

My mate's got the Lenovo you're talking about - he's pretty pleased with it...

Yep, I want portability to be able to work anywhere in the house. I have an iMac but prefer to use a laptop for that very reason.

Any opinions/experiences with custom built laptops Vs branded ?
