    Recommend a Dell laptop

Hi my dad is looking for a laptop for work, he'll just be using it for Office and email and pretty much nothing else. Maybe the odd large Powerpoint file and very light photo editing, quite basic needs.

The requirements are it has to be Dell and he'd really prefer a 13-14in screen, so it's portable and not too big or bulky.

From the dell.ie website it seems the XPS 13 is the only option but they don't have the latest processors. I had a look at the Latitudes and they seem to be extremely expensive for worse components, why is the Latitude so expensive (starting at 1500 euro)? Does anyone have any suggestions?

What I'm ideally looking for is a low power processor, doesn't get too hot, has good battery life, and a thin and light form. The budget isn't strict, as long as it ticks the boxes and isn't an obscene price it should be OK.

Have you looked at the Latitude E3440 and E7440 starting at €520 and €1049 (ex VAT/del) respectively? Both are 14" and have 4th gen Core chips.

    Re: Recommend a Dell laptop

I'm on a Lattitude E6320 at work (no longer available, but the E6330 is). The Lattitudes are more expensive because they are intended for heavy business use: they're a premium product and have the finish and durability to back that up (plus generally thy have a wider range of accessories: for instance, I don't think the XPS have full docking capability, while the Lattitudes have a range of desktop docks available).

tbh, I'd've thought a Lattitude 3330 would be ideal - ulv Sandy Bridge, 13", lightweight, and starts at 529 euros. Not having the latest processor really isn't an issue when you're looking for low power, long battery life etc. Yes, a Haswell-based book might get you a couple more hours between recharges, but is that really a deal breaker?

The Lattitude 14 3000 is the other obvious option - a little bigger and heavier, but steps up to a haswell ULV and is 10 euroes cheaper.
