SB PC - Pentium D or Core Duo

I have build up a system on the Dell.co.uk website.

Optiplex 745 - Intel® Core® 2 Duo® Processor E6400(2.13GHz,1066MHz FSB,2MB L2 cache) - £839.00

Optiplex 320 - Intel® Pentium® D Processor 925(3.00GHz, 800MHz FSB,2x2MB L2 cache,Dual Core Technology) - £694.00

Both are simular spec other than RAM in Optiplex 745 is 667MHz appose to Optiplex 320 being 533MHz, both 3years warranty, 19" TFT etc etc.

Is the Core Duo worth the extra £145.00? Its going to be used for:

Windows XP Pro
Office 2003 (Word, Excell)
Payroll + other Financial Applications
and Solitaire probably.

With the Core2Duo instead of P4 you'll probably have lower power consumption and heat, thus lower bills and better reliability.

Although for the jobs you're talking about you'd be fine with the cheapest Core2Duo you can get, the E6400 is overkill.

the C2D machine is obviously the better one but for what you want it to do I would go for the pentium D. It is still a very capable machine

I went for the C2D based on the fact its the latest chip and also the power saving. I'm sure they'll be happy enough for the next 6 months.
