    Xclio PSUs

Has anybody used an Xclio Goodpower in a build? I was thinking of using one because it offers a modular set up for a good price and all the reviews I've found suggest good quality.

The one I was looking at was the 550w model on SCAN TO.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

Well things like this don't inspire me with confidence

Note that while it's got an Underwriters Laboratories mark on the label, there's a total lack of UL number which I do believe is not allowed, you have to display the number of the certificate awarded to claim you adhere to it.

However while there's no really solid review I can find a few bits of info, they are built by CWT from their older PSH platform, so it should be similar to the original Corsair VX550w
Primary cap is a Rubycon and the secondarys are Teapo's, I'm not sure if they are 85c or 105c though. (the VX550w used Nippon Chemi-Con 105c caps on both primary (KMR series) and secondary (KZE series))
So it's probably one of CWT's more budget offerings, all told it should be fairly decent, not amazing but decent.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

Since you have had good experience with Antec (http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware/...ml#post2119988), why not just go for the truepower:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-...-quiet-fan-atx

    it's £53.46 Inc VAT.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

No idea about the goodpower. I had a 480W CWT built XCLIO in my previous build and I had no complaints. Still going strong in the same computer some 6 years on.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

Ahh my mistake Good power not great power, the good power is still CWT made but full of cheap Fujhhyu capacitors (known for failing and not liking any heat) however that was back in 2008 it might of changed since then, probably still using cheaper capacitors though.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

great power series was very reliable and kept up with most other psus out there and from experience mines been solid (apart from the fan dieing, ran passive for 4 months till i got round to replacing it..). Coming up to its 4th birthday soon so good news on that, however good power i doubt its as good

    Re: Xclio PSUs

Yes, better than a budget no-name fire hazard, for a midrange office/internet pc it should be ok.

depending what you're looking to power the seasoic made antec neo eco 520w would be a good on to look at. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/520w-...x-scan-exclusi (anything the goodpower 550w can power so could this)
    It's only semi-modular though.

    Fully modular there's the silverstone sst-st50f-p http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-...iet-fan-atx-v2
made by FSP, it's fully modular but it has been corner cut, No MOV, 12v is ok but not great and the 3.3v is rather flakey but fully modular and under £60 you'll not find better.
(and 3.3v flakeyness is common for dc-dc low wattage psu's)
edit: It is very good at very low loads though. still around 80% effeciency at around 50w (10% load)

For £70 there's the HEC made Cougar 550w http://www.ebuyer.com/269175-cougar-...r-psu-cmx-550w or £80 for the 80+ silver rated version http://www.ebuyer.com/269181-cougar-...ar-psu-sx-550w

Had I known this, I would have gone for that instead of the bronze antec truepower.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

To be honest I was looking at the Xclio because it appeared to offer a reasonable quality level for a relatively low price which I could pass on to my neighbour. However, like Pob, I read Great Power instead of Good Power so the review I read is immaterial. All in all I think it safer all round if I recommend a known quality PSU.

I wanted modular / semi-modular because it makes the case tidier and easier to fit inside a small case. That antec neo eco looks good Pob.

Hank, the antec in your link looks promising as well.

First of all I need to sort out their laptop psu so SCAN better pull their finger out or I will go with an Antec I saw on Amazon
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

I was having trouble picking a PSU but after posting on a few forums, i think the general consensus was to get a well known brand of cpu.

There's an article on Tom's Hardware saying you should always get a reputable PSU make.

    Re: Xclio PSUs

both my brother-in-law and younger brother have xclio psu's as their systems were built on a budget. What can you say about a psu? It's not the quietest but not the loudest I've heard either, doesn't generate an unusally high amount of heat and all the extensions power the components consistently and have (yet) to see any spikes/oc/uc etc. As a cheap alternative to a corsair, coolermaster etc, you could do a lot worse
