    What size PSU

My system spec is as follows:

    Mainboard: Asus M2N68
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Black Edition.
    Graphics: ATI Radeon HD4870 1Gb
    Memory: 2x Kingston HyperX DDR2 1Gb + 2x Crucial Ballistix DDR2 1Gb (4 Gb total memory)
Hard Drives: 1x Samsung HM500JI 500Gb SATA (2.5 inch drive), 1x Seagate Diamond Max 23 500Gb SATA, WD Caviar Green 640Gb SATA and 1x 160Gb IDE Drive (can't remember the model)
Optical Drives: 1x SATA DVD Writer and 1x IDE DVD Writer (again can't remember the models)
Cooling: 1x thermaltake 80mm case fan and stock AMD CPU Cooler

Currently it has an OSZ Fatal1ty 550w PSU that is less than 2 years old in it.

This PSU has started to fail, the machine keeps locking up and the only way I am able to even run it was to unplug the case fan, both dvd writers, the ide hard drive and take out the crucial memory.

So I need to get a new PSU

What size PSU would you guys recommend for this system as I firmly believe the 550w simply was not big enough so I strained it and that's why it failed.

400-450W would be more than enough. You were nowhere near straining a 550W supply unless it had an inherent fault/badly designed 12V rails.

Yes as Kalniel says that 550w should be fine, the OCZ Fatality is quite good, so I suspect a faulty unit.
They have a 3year warranty so I'd RMA it.

that will mean you'll be without a psu so you might want to get something to hold you over while it's rma'd

something like the xfx 450w would be fine http://www.ebuyer.com/264381-xfx-450...u-p1-450s-u2b9

    Thanks for the responses

On further testing it seems it's not the PSU after all but the Crucial memory.

If that is removed the machine seems to run fine all be it a bit slower since it's on half memory.

testing it in another machine stops that machine from booting as well.

Are you looking to SLI/Cross fire in the future? If you are I would suggest a more powerfull PSU

    Re: What size PSU

Just get a 650-750W PSU,it'll put your mind at rest and give you extra power should you need it in future.

Go with a Corsair and you'll get a 7 year garantee, then you know you not gonna have to spend for a long while.
