Re: BF3 makes PSU go on maximum attack

    Thanks for the advice Pob,

Well this is what has happened. I have done as you said Pob and ran the prime test on all cores along side furmark for 15 mins, both under full load and this problem did not happen. CPU and GPU fan span up a bit but a very small amount, so no issue.

Called SCAN, very nice but no help as they said it doesn't sound like it is faulty and it is probably best to call EA or OCZ.
Called EA, again very nice but even less help. Said they had never heard of this issue before and no record of it on the system. His advice was (have you checked the BIOS) not sure what he was getting at but still.....
Can't call OCZ but have raised a ticket but I am fully expecting them to say its a software issue and not an issue with their product.

So I'm suck not being able to play the game I built this RIG for!

Re: BF3 makes PSU go on maximum attack

Bit of a longshot (but then it is an odd problem)....but if the PSU has a 3/4 pin cable to monitor fan speed, either connect or disconnect it.

It seems crazy that BF3 will cause a PSU fan to ramp up but nothing else will.

Re: BF3 makes PSU go on maximum attack

The PSU doesn't seem to have any cable controlling fan speed, all internal.

    Yep i'm completely stumped.

OCZ have told me to RMA it but have not given me any reasoning for that. Bit loathed to rip it all out just to find it doing the same thing but not sure what else I can do.

    que sad face.

Re: BF3 makes PSU go on maximum attack

    My PSU also gets noisy.....

My pc is a good few years old, and I thought my CPU was going to melt due to playing battlefield3. The noise of the fans increase after about 5 minutes of playing. After playing it seems to take a few good minutes before is quietens down.

At first I thought is was the CPU fan, but down on my knees it was not the CPU.
Then I thought it was the GFX card being stressed out, this was a contribution but hardly major
I then felt the air flow from the PSU, I just blocked the airflow with my hand and the whine was reduced.

Never noticed this before but I assume BF3 is making the CPU and GPU work and the draw from the PSU is a good load.
I think my next PSU will be at least a 80+ Gold certification. Waiting for the review on the Be Quiet stuff.

On many reviews and on a lot of Newegg reviews a lot of people are saying the fan on that power supply sounds like a jet engine. The fan spins very fast when it is not needed and it is not well optimised. The PSU is good but that fan is most certainly a bugger!

Try running a few things like 3dmark11, furmark, unigene... see if any of them cause it to happen. If so then it's obviously knackered and overheating. Otherwise it's some weird problem which you'll probably have to get help from the manufacturer with.
