Question Looking for a PSU recommendation

I'm looking for a PSU that will go with the Fractal Design Define R4, with a 760 and the future possibility of SLI (700w - 800w range?)
I want to keep the budget sensible but performance is important. Low noise is also important.

Was looking at these... to give you an idea at the ballpark i've been looking at

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/730w-...-quiet-fan-atx
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...uiet-fan-atx-v

The issue on the XFX one is that on the reevoo review is states the power cable is short.

    Any advice?

Re: Looking for a PSU recommendation

The XFX ones get consistent good praise and contain seasonic parts. I went for a Corsair Pro 750W because the XFX were always out of stock on scan

PSU has a well known problem with a fan knocking noise which gets louder under noise. Wish I'd researched this before I bought it.

Re: Looking for a PSU recommendation

Hmmm that's the first I've heard of that. If it's true then happy I got the corsair (as I also have a R4) but then again I was going to get the fully modular XFX so might not of had the same issues.

Re: Looking for a PSU recommendation

The problem with reviews is that the price always ends up higher afterwards...
    e.g.
Looking at a 50% increase in costs to what I started (just wondering if it can be justified).

There's always the possibility that the guy writing that revoo was an idiot.

Just check the specifications online, I can't imagine it wouldn't fit.

The non-modular cable XFX (pro series) have good length cables - no problem at all going around the back of the motherboard for my HAF912+ with cable management.

Agree about the noisy fan bearing though.

Re: Looking for a PSU recommendation

Triathlor 700W is a good choice IMO.

    Review for it:
    http://www.kitguru.net/components/po...c-700w-review/

    Cooler Master V700 (£107 @ Scan)
    http://skinflint.co.uk/cooler-master...1-a936595.html
Uses a fluid dynamic bearing fan, spins quite slowly in idle. Based on the same design as the Seasonic X-750 (SS-750KM3) that you linked above.

I think a really high quality 650W PSU would also be fine for GTX 760 SLI, in which case I'd also recommend
    NZXT Hale90 650W (£100 @ Scan)
    http://skinflint.co.uk/nzxt-hale90-6...2-a557338.html
    Very quiet/slow spinning fan.

Re: Looking for a PSU recommendation

Check Seasonic G-650, I think it should be enough for GTX760 in SLI configuration.

A fantastic power supply for the price. Will handle a 2 way 760 SLI no problem.

The first point in that "user" review is total rubbish, there's 26mm of space behind the motherboard tray and side panel in the R4, there is no way the 24pin cable is that thick, so the user is talking out of his behind or is just very very inept at cable management. (such as he's put an ssd behind the motherboard tray and is trying to run the 24pin cable over it rather than around it)
Not saying that that enermax is bad, the enermax psu's are still some of the best psu's around but often a bit pricey (not includiong the enermax NAXN psu's which are not actually made by enermax but by sirtech, fsp or CWT depending on model, they tend to be much cheaper but not to the same high quality)

It's the problem with this sort of "user" review, they tend to be too short to be of much value, you don't know the level of competence of the person or even if they are a true user and not someone paid by a marketing company to give good/bad reviews of products to raise or lower their profile (this is actually a fairly common practise)

Re: Looking for a PSU recommendation

Corsair rarely use Seasonic now themselves otherwise I'd say Corsair.

I've got a Corsair TX650 v1 from when they did however, and I've been using it since 2007 with only one RMA due to fan clicking which is an extremely common fault, I was upgraded to a TX650 v2 also manufactured by Seasonic.

You can check here to see who manufactures your PSU unit if you're has boring and interesting has me
