Re: Your views on Capital Punishment

Capital punishment is incompatible with a civilised society, for various reasons pointed out above but also because it brutalises sensitive and vulnerable members of society, many of whom may be in the habit of joining tech forums for the purpose of starting controversial threads.

Re: Your views on Capital Punishment

Capital punishment may not be a deterrent to offending in the first place but in its favour it does have a 100% record of preventing repeat offences.

I'm obviously in a minority here but I'm in favour of the death penalty for particularly heinous crimes where there is absolutely no room for dispute of guilt.

The two chavs in the news today who just kicked a random bloke to death in the street for fun and got a 15 year old chavette to film it on their phone seem to fit the bill nicely. Society would be far better off without them and I for one would shed no tears for them if they were executed.

As it is they will be incarcerated for a pathetically few years and then will be free to leave prison and lead what passes for a normal life in their type of society. Raising kids and inculcating them with their own vile sense of values.

We have become a society that values the offender above the victim. The family of the man who they brutally murdered are going to have to live with the effects for the rest of their lives. I doubt if the offenders would have given it a second thought if they hadn't been caught.
"Free speech includes not only the inoffensive but the irritating, the contentious, the eccentric, the heretical, the unwelcome and the provocative provided it does not tend to provoke violence. Freedom only to speak inoffensively is not worth having."

The problem with that is that it's very hard to prove guilt 100%, and you only have to execute one innocent person and then it's VERY hard to take it back.
