I woudl not switch it. Leave it on its route. ok 10 people will die, but if you make it go the other way 1 person will die.
    Actually I press <tilde> godmode <enter> no_clips <enter> pause <enter> or something...
Ctrl + Alt + Delete "End task train.exe".

More seriosly though I don't see why I should change it? Honestly I would just leave it. If you kill one person you will always have that on your consience. I dont know, but I would have thought 10 people wont make much affect, you'll still be gutted in shock etc.

some really twisted logic there guys....

anyway, its a moral dilemma not a bloody scenario so I think to actually answer the question you need to take it at face value and not analyse too much. basicaly 5 secs to choose who lives or dies, 10 ppl in a bus or 1 in a car.

G4Z - I would still say that the number of people is an irrelevance in this case. But I can see where you are coming from in terms of over analysing the question. For example - what if the guy in the car had just invented a cure for cancer and only he knew the full details.

Though one thing to think about is this, I asked my mate who used to work for BR and he said that they always try to schedule trains to go through crossings at the same time (or near enough) to minimise road delays. So it is highly likely that a train would be running on the other track - which would cause a bigger accident.

It would be interesting to note what pschologists would make of peoples answers, not that I have that much faith in that particular profession

Well studying psychology at college....and i would say....psychology is the biggest waste of time ever. its geniuely stupid. I woud like to analyse some of your answers...but all i could do was quote a theory or two about attachment and memory...and then back it up with some studies....great uh? Im not going to do it as a profession - had enouhg of it at A level....

Taking it at face value i would say change the tracks to the car and kill one person.

    i would pull it
the person sitting in his car is guilty of driving onto the tracks and not moving
the driver of the bus is also guilty of driving onto the tracks and not moving
the other 9 in the bus arent however....
ok so that one bus driver was meant to die? but the other 9 are innocent so why cant u just make the one in the car take his life to save ten others?
also what about if u divert to the car but as you do that a truck full of 50 illegal imagrants pushes the car out of the way because the traffic is moving and the bus moves out of the way for a motorbike with an 80 year old man on? hmm i would prolly kill my self i think, or i would seriously think about it

Its very hard to say what i would do in the given situation. I think i would pull it and let the train kill the person in the car it is for the greater good but i dont know if i could live with myslef afterwards

Good one. Thought it was going to be one of those threat situations, kill or I'll kill things.

I think either one can be defended and no trouble of conscience either way should be inferred, but, I'd go for the car - all the time keeping my eyes on those in the bus!

    Haha.

Look lads, the bloke in the car hasn't invented a cure for cancer and 'only he knows the full details' , the percentage chance of the train coming off the tracks isn't important, the train is not any more or less likely to derail on either track, the people on the mini-bus are not all really nice people, nor are there any other factors to consider.

Its a moral dilema, not a real situation.

It is a very simple question, you don't even need a train, a car or a mini-bus.

Question: Do you kill one person, to save the lives of 10?

    Nothing more, nothing less.

There is the third option of course - You nip into the nearest phonebox and change into your superhero costume and save everybody

would you be arrested for the train killing 10 people, as it was 'an act of god' kinda thing, fate, whatever... i dont know, but i'm sure that if you were to divert the train into the car you would be either guilty of murder (or at least manslaughter) as you *knew* that the person in that car was gonna die, and you would have caused their death...

i prolly would've left it, as it would not have been my fault that either vehicles were on the tracks, and then i would not be directly responsible for anyones deaths, as death was inevitable to the minibus people if nothing was done.

hmm i think i've ran out of ideas/thoughts, but yeh leave the switch, tough luck to the people in the minibus, they should've got themselves out the way, i'm sure 10 people could happily push a minibus

maybe he does, but is he likely to be able to push his 1+ tonne car out of the way of the train, thus saving more lives, was my point
