I think we've read to much into this guys, its basically a test to see if you believe and trust in fate. That the people in the bus's fate was to die do you believe in fate enough not to get in its way?
Yes
No
Other (PLEASE state)

what if the mini bus said ": BRISTOL STATE PRISON :" on the side of it
...seriously though i'd obviously choose killing 1 person in comparision to killing 10.
...thats if i could make that decision within 5 or 6 seconds
I still play with the switch.....
maybe it's fate that you noticed the train and were supposed to pull the switch
personally I'd like to think I would pull the switch
My votes with leave the switch...
In this wonderful twisted country of ours you would be held responsible for changing the switch and 'causing' the death of the one person, followed by a big compensation claim from the family and a probable prison term.
If you let the train carry on and kill ten, there would be nothing you could do to prevent inevitable death be it of the few or many, you would be innocent and the court would rule in your favour. It would be a tragic accident.
This is of course without taking in other influences into consideration ie another train on another line, which adds more to the criminal side :/
(If this was a country of nil consequence - I would switch to save lives of the many)

Well I say you pull the switch to find out if whether it exists. If it doesn't then you save 9 lives. If it does, you can try to keep tabs on the people and write down how they die so you can make a movie about it!Originally Posted by Knoxville

What's more one in a car has a better chance of escaping than 10, in such a short time.

You could get done for it, but on the other hand you could get done for neglegance of duty.Originally Posted by Rabs

ANYWAY. thats not what this is about! As already stressed this is a very simple "yes or no" question, you have to think deeply to be simple about it.

I still argue that it is not a simple question because you have been asked what you would do in a particular situation. Thus you have to consider what would impact upon that decision. It would have been easier to ask;
Pop Quiz - Sit on your arse and do nothing to let 10 people die, flick a switch to kill 1 person, what do you do?
Who to say they would die in that minibus though, train jams on his breaks, slows to enough of a speed where by the minibus gets a right shunt and would destroy a car.,, but not a minibus ..
What if the car was a Hummer or something similar.....
Wait, look! I forgot completely about the tank I came in. Just let me hop in and I'll see if I can't 'motivate' the train to slow down.
Then again, which country are we in? Maybe there'll be an earthquake. Or what if I only push the switch half way so that the train derails down the middle?
And what kind of train - passenger, freight, military, maybe it's the one from Broken Arrow, and we're all going to die anyway because of the nuke?

Let's make it into a movie, then someone can utter that immortal line
"If I could just reach that switch....."
If its a simple 'blind' question then its obvious you would pull the switch, anyone in the right mind would, there will 'always' be other influences or variables to take into consideration.Originally Posted by Bunjiweb
