    Question Male Skincare, socially acceptable?

After a quick straw poll at the office on Friday the matter of 'is male skincare socially acceptable, or is it a bit gay', remains unresloved.

The subject arose when during general office banter I revealed I have a skincare regimen, in as much as I use a cleanser, toner & moisturiser on a regular basis. Now I'd not really cattagorise myself as a vein person. It's just I like to feel good about myself & I keep in shape, lest the wife go off me
The result of this admission was that I got acused of being 'a big girly poofta', prettymuch. Is this the case? Is looking after my skin a gay thing? Seems the 'macho' fraternity favour soap & water & that's about it.

So, I put it to you, the Hexus faithful.....is it OK to continue using male skincare products?

They're probably just ripping you - I tend to whenever I hear it, but then quickly admit I do the same. There shouldnt be any shame in admitting it imo.

Thing is you have to look after yourself and everyone has their own way of doing so. Some guys actually need skincare products to get by. If you want to look after your skin, thats up to you . . . same for being gay

    Cheeky goit

Well, with 4 kids, I prettymuch can rule out being deep in the closet. I just figure the wife, being a bit younger than me & the kids, all girls, dont want some crusty looking old husband/father in years to come. I dont feel 36, I dont see why I should look it.

According to my sisters I'm a person who has to do all the toning/moisturising, but 99/100 days i can't be bothered.

If you ever saw my face you'd see why i need to, but it's not like its essential for me. My does doesn't though, and he still gets blackheads etc so I figure i'm doomed as far as skin is concerned and may as well give up.

I look after my skin to the extent that I moisturise it when it's dry, but I don't specifically look after it as a matter of course. I have pretty sensitive skin, it runs in the family, and my skin quite often gets sensitised to products after a while. I only use Cream E45 as a moisturiser now.

Still, I'm going bald at the age of 25, so I'm resigned to looking old before my time. If anything, I'd rather not be a baby faced baldy, they always look silly.

Don't forget there's now another category 'Metrosexual', defined as a straight guy with the beautification habits of a homosexual.

Having watched my brother go through the hell of chronic excema when he was younger I'm all for male skincare products. I was lucky enough to get away with just getting dry skin now and again.

I use Nivea for my face, E45 for my elbows / hands and either Gillette sensitive or King of Shaves gel for shaving.

Always got stick for it from the guys I played football / rugby with, but they soon shut up after a while, especially when girls comment on your having smooth skin

I wash with soap and water, shower with shower gel, use shaving foam before shaving, and aftershave after shaving.

Of all those products, the only thing that cost a bit was my D&G aftershave. The rest is Lynx stuff.

Still, if you go in for all those creams, and buy products from adverts in which they say things like 'now with retanoid micro plus for 9.74% better skin!', then fair enough.

Altough i don't moisturise my face etc, i do use some hand cremes, as i do a lot of fishing and also have escma (sic) on my hands. At the end of the day, if it makes you feel better/more confident/you enjoy it, then go for it!

It's spelt Eczema I believe. I never got that although my little bro had it (I think) as a baby. I forgot to add that I was a spotty oik as a teenager and although I'm fine now I still have a tendency towards greasiness on my face at least, I probably don't need to moisturise. I used to use shower gel but for cost reasons I've been using some Lux soap for the last few months and in general my skin has been good, not too dry or too greasy; I'm sticking with it. I also started using Dove moisturising shampoo recently; I just grabbed the first bottle in the bathroom but since I've been using it I haven't suffered the dry, itchy scalp I used to.
