    The Police... above the law?

    So once again a speeding cop is let off... 90mph in a 30mph zone, however, he was on call but I'm not sure that justifies things;

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005240267,00.html

    A COP accused of crashing at 90mph was cleared yesterday after the black box that recorded his patrol car’s speed was LOST.

    PC Daniel Swain’s Vauxhall Astra smashed into another car and then hurtled into a house while on a 999 call.

    The car’s data recorder allegedly showed he had been doing 90mph in a 30mph zone near Bolsover, Derbys.

    But the case was thrown out after Derby Crown Court heard the box was “no longer in existence”, so the evidence could not be challenged. And a cop driving behind PC Swain, 30, put his speed at 60mph.

    The judge blasted prosecutors and APOLOGISED to PC Swain. The CPS said it did not know what happened to the box.

    There was outrage last week when PC Mark Milton, 38, was cleared of dangerous driving at 159mph in Shropshire.
    I'm a little disturbed that the evidence was 'lost'. There should be a full inquiry as to where it has gone. What if the cop had been arrested for murder? For shooting someone, and the gun had mysteriously been 'lost'?

    If that had been Joe Public I'm sure the black box wouldn't have disappeared like that. Once again this is a perfect example of the police abusing their power and position.

    The police are not the law. They are a government organisation, responsible, amongst other things, for gathering evidence and organising cases against people who have committed criminal acts.
