    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

    Sorry, completely forgot about this.

No it won't work. The Reciever doesn't have the software for being used as any kind of access point, even a limited one for just the Controller.

i take it that the squeeze controller can work with softsqueeze too? rather than needing a hardware player?

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

I presume so. Although right now you can only get the Controller as part of the Duet bundle.

Seperate Controllers and Recievers are on their way though.

Received my duet yesterday. very impmressed with the packaging and teh device itself. I've managed to setup Squeezecentre on my Synology 207+ NAS box. All seems to work well. I need to have more of a play with it yet but so far so good. thanks for the write up.

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

Glad you found it useful. And glad you like your Duet too

I have to admit though, I swapped by Reciever out for my original SB3. turns out I missed the clock and the Now Playing displays. I still use the controller, but not all the time. When i'm at my computer in the corner of the room I either use the normal remote or the web interface. If i'm reading on the sofa I'll use the Controller though.

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

I'll see how I get on with it but the idea at the moment is to have the receivers(on ethernet)/amps in the cellar all cabled around the house to various speakers/zones. The cabling is in, just awaiting speakers to test it out. Hopefully the wireless signal will reach from the cellar through two floors to the bedrooms!

    Cheers

Have you not downloaded the tetris plugin?

Hours of fun to be had, but now I prefer the VU meters now

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

I'm very boring when it comes to my setup. Very few plugins, only really AlienBBC in fact. And Just have the basic Now Playing as my screensaver

I did have the VU meters to start with, but they got annoying when I could see them out of the corner of my eye.

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

Just wondering if anyone has any more opinions/reviews on the the Duet?

I'm torn between adding a Duet based system, or Airport Express based.

Read too many positive reviews on both sides!

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

Do you know if it's possible to output the same feed/sound to multiple duet's? I only have one at the moment but am planning on having three receivers through the house, I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) that this is possible, it'd be good for party's etc.. where you want the same tracks played through the house.

    cheers

Any of the Squeeze devices can be syncronised, this includes SoftSqueeze and all the hardware players right the way back to the SliMP3. I don't sync my players at the moment (in a one bedroom flat you hardly need to), however I believe you can have multiple sync groups too.

There are a couple of issues with syncing though, gapless playback isn't possible i know that. I'm sure there is something else minor as well, but i can't remember right not.

There is a new set of code lined up for the SqueezeCenter 7.3 that re-factors the streaming code meaning we could actually get gapless sync and increased reliability.

Hi,still using a SB3(Just as good sound quality & you can get cheap now.So a alternative for some peeps).Don't use lots of Plugins(AlienBBC),not sure about Dual, but Lazysearch is a good Plugin.Especially if you have a large music collection.Worth a look at anyway.

    Cheers BOB

Can you explain how you installed SqueezeCenter on your NAS box? Is all your music on the NAS as well? Does this allow you to play music without having a PC turned on? Would this work on any NAS? I would greatly appreciate the help. I have not purchased my NAS yet, but this is exactly what I am looking to do.

    Re: Logitech Duet hands on

Not all NAS boxes can have SqueezeCenter installed, the common ones are the Synology and Qnap boxes. For those NAS boxes than can have it installed, it is a fairly easy operation these days. SSODS and SSOTS (SlimServer On DiskStation and SlimServer on TurboStation - SlimServer is the old name for SqueezeCenter) are the two packages you are looking for.

If you do get it all setup with SC on your NAS, then yes all your music can be on there too a long with havig your main PC off.

One down side of this though is they are generally quite limited and a lot slower than a full blown PC.
