mATX build with quiet fans a priority

Ok, I'm putting together a new build and the new SilverStone Precision PS07 case suits my needs. I do not intend to overclock. The components I'm looking at are:

    PSU: Seasonic X-400FL
    Case: SilverStone Precision PS07
    CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K
    Mboard: Biostar TH67XE H67
    RAM: Kingston dual ddr3 1333 code KVR1333D3N9K2/8G
HDD: WD Caviar Green 2TB WD20EARX
    SSD: Crucial 64GB M4 SSD CT064M4SSD2

I've chosen a fanless PSU so no noise there which leaves the stock CPU cooler and fan and the fans fitted to the case.

Do you think the stock cooler fan will be quiet enough once I've adjusted the BIOS?

And has anyone any experience of the fans fitted to the Case yet?

    All comments appreciated!

Re: mATX build with quiet fans a priority

the SilverStone Precision PS07 is the same frame as the more expensive TJ08B-E, but with two 120mm fans at the front instead of the single 180mm air penetrator and the bezel is made of plastic not aluminium.
The TJ08B-E is really nice, but this cheaper option really does tick all the boxes for high end compatible mATX case.

Looks like it's the standard silverstone FN212 fans http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...id=113&area=en
Not bad overall, I've got a couple of the original ones which had the same product number but where higher speed and 4pin molex only
Nothing too special, low noise, not silent, knock the speed down a little and they will be.

You've got the addition of a door which is going to lower the sound more.

I'd say get it and see, then if you're not happy swap them.

Stock cooler, when idle it'll not be a problem, under load it will.
However with that case you can fit in nearly any cpu cooler.
for a low cost cooler I'd suggest the coolermaster hyper 212 EVO http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...5-1156-1366-am

Have a look at 1600mhz ram, mainly because it's normally slightly cheaper than 1333mhz

comparitive reviews of the two cases can be found here:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4533/s...-a-little-coat

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/5270/s...emjin-for-less

If I remember right they found them fairly similar in terms of performance, but the tj08 was felt to be the better one overall given the small price difference between them.

Have you considered one of these:

Re: mATX build with quiet fans a priority

    UK prices not US
    £75 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silve...usb-30-w-o-psu vs £54 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silve...icro-atx-black
I'd not call that a small price difference. not massive but £20 that's the cost of a cheap after market cpu cooler

Is it just me or does the look of the PS07 remind you of the old akasa Eclipse-62 that's been shrunk in the wash?

EDIT when you think that the main competitor to these cases is the Fractal Design ARC mini which is £63 the pricing does make a bit of sense.

typical. the price difference in the US is $20. That good old $ to £ conversion again.

Re: mATX build with quiet fans a priority

The OP should also look at the Fractal Define Mini too:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/270600-fractal...edium=products

    Here is a review:

    http://www.silentpcreview.com/fractal-define-mini

    Edit!!

If the OP is not overclocking then why are they getting a Core i5 2500K??

    I would get this CPU:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...tio-80w-retail

It is bascially a slightly lower clocked Core i7 2600K with an 80W TDP and no IGP. Since there is no IGP you cannot use Quick Sync but it will be easier to cool the CPU.

I would get a passive HD6450 graphics card to handle your display and you will also not loose system RAM to the IGP too.

Or how about the i5 2400 at £150 it's cheaper and only slightly slower

Does depend what it wanted for.

Re: mATX build with quiet fans a priority

I am thinking more about the 15W lower TDP for the CPU which should make it easier to cool.

There is also the 80W E3-1220 too:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...che-80w-retail

I just realised it has a full 8MB of L3 cache like the E3-1230 but losses HT. It might be similar in speed to a Core i5 2500.

Thankyou, I'll go and search for 1600mhz.

If the OP is not overclocking then why are they getting a Core i5 2500K??
I want to use the integrated graphics and the 2500K gives me HD3000 graphics over the 2500 HD2000 graphics.

I'm not really interested in changing the case, the PS07 really suits the fanless PSU design with a PSU at the top with a vent directly above it.

Thanks to all, I'm going to buy now (the case and HDD are on today only offers) and will post my opinions on the build when complete!

Biostar isnt the best Mobo, i would aim somewhere else, maybe ASUS or Gigabyte.
