That's my understanding anyhow - Could be wrong like as i'm new to this.
Ivy Bridge reaches much higher temperatures which is the issue. Sandy Bridge does not even though it produces more heat and it can get away with cheaper coolers. If you are doing a milder overclock perhaps 4GHZ or just above,IB looks fine with cheaper coolers, its only when you start hitting 4.3GHZ to 4.4GHZ onwards(I could be wrong) that you start needing really good cooling.

The thing,if the both the CPUs were the same price it would be one thing, but a Core i5 2500K can be had for much less. To put it another way,you could add another £15 to your motherboard budget or cooler budget if you get a Core i5 2500K.

Thanks for the advice dude. My RAM and GPU arn't in stock yet so got a while to go through overclocking options etc. before I order so will bear this in mind

Also worth noting is what you actually lose by going to a 2500k, Higher DDR3 clocks, PCI Express 3 support, Better Intel 4000 and updated Quicksync.

Tri-gate transistor technology (Uses less power)
    PCI Express 3.0 support
    USB 3.0 support
    Max CPU multiplier of 63
RAM support up to 2800 MT/s in 200 MHz increments
    Intel HD Graphics 2500/4000
The built-in GPU will have 6 or 16 execution units
    Bull Mountain
    Multiple 4K video playback.
    Intel Quick Sync

Im a sucker for all things new so will probably go with ivybridge anyhow. Overclocking is a bonus for me right now as i dont know much about it - As long as my system is pretty sweet for a 1k budget im happy.
